Zen2 the logical choice for gaming cpu

So I was reading the other day about the PS5 looks like it will have a 8c16t cpu/apu based on zen 2. So going forward if anyone thinking of upgrading I would imagine zen2 with 8c must be the logical choice. Intel is always seen to be the 'gaming' cpu but since most games are made for consoles and usually ported I imagine zen2 would be the better option. Any thoughts on this subject?

The statement that having a CPU which is the foundations for another platform makes some sense. However, amd have held the console market for some time now which has not improved pc port optimizations.

Yeah, I don't think the logic follows. Clearly they make for a fine gaming platform else big money from Sony and Microsoft wouldn't get invested in them, but it doesn't guarantee they are the best. Past consoles have used MIPS and PowerPC chips, sadly with no resurgence in computers based on those architectures.

Specially when politics, developer assistance etc come into play. The recent World War Z Vulkan benchmarks show what can be done with AMD GPUs, but Nvidia will do all they can to push technologies that makes their cards look best and then Microsoft push their DirectX so they can control platforms and upgrade paths.

But my money went on a 2600X because it was the best in my price range. If 3600X is better, then that's awesome.

Read the reviews when they come out, buy whichever CPU fits your needs.

It just means console ports tend not to be CPU limited. Intel isn't always seen to be the gaming CPU, I don't know why you think it is - I mean, the vast majority of intel chips are not used for gaming, so they're the non-gaming CPU too.

Most pc gamers tend to prefer the intel CPU for gaming due to higher ipc performance and higher clock speed fast frame rates etc.

Amazon has the Ryzen 5 2600 for £132.29 at the moment. That's a great price.

Most PC gamers are GPU limited and prefer to spend the cash on something which affects the performance.

Most 'Most x prefer' stats are made up on the spot.

Speculation is that AMD will reveal Zen 2 at Computex and release it (maybe only for preorders by a few weeks) on 7/7
