Potentially my first AMD kit since the 1100T years ago. Was great for the -bigadv back in the day
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Mark Papermaster says he couldn't be more excited.. in the kind of voice that puts me to sleep

I'm covering the ears of my 9900K.

8 Core CCX confirmed. 2x L3 cache. 19% IPC uplift apparently.

5900X 26% faster than 3900X at 1080p across their suite of games. Beats (just - mostly single figure %) 10900 in all of the same.

    5900X - $550
    5800X - $450
    5600X - $300

    5950X - 16c/32T, 4.9ghz boost. 105W. $800.

    All available Nov 5th.

    Big Navi: borderlands 3 at 4K = 61fps (badass quality). Gears 5 73fps at 4K (ultra quality). COD:MW 88fps (ultra)

    Re: AMD Zen3 event thread

Pricing is horrendous. The Ryzen 7 3700X was $330 at launch. The 65W TDP Ryzen 5 3600 was $200,and the 95W TDP Ryzen 5 3600X was $250. So AMD has now essentially jacked up pricing for the 65W TDP Ryzen 5 5600X by between 33% to 50% it appears.

You are fine. Your Core i9 9900K was £400ish IIRC,and the 8C Ryzen 7 5800X will cost closer to £420.

Good point. If I was buying now, I'd probably still go for it for the PCIe4, but I'm not buying now, I was buying then . They might as well milk the early adopters then they've got room to cut price to counter newer Intel releases.

Yeah, certainly feels "expensive" at 450 for the 8 core. Was really hoping it would be 300-350.

Guess I'll hold on to my old i5 3570k a while longer then...
While not entirely unexpected, this makes the consoles even better value.
Now it only there was some way to hack then to run an OS...
Obviously, AMD also want to milk some of the big spending games, but I increasing mainstream this much could backfire.
A specially binned 5950-FAHM edition (fool and his money...) to milk the last 1% performance gamers and more reasonable prices for mainstream would have been far more palatable.
Still, dependent on independent reviews Zen3 seems to perform nicely.

    Re: AMD Zen3 event thread

Its even worse when you consider the global job losses, etc. It seems PCMR is considered a bunch of whales which can bare huge double digit price increases. You can get an 8 core AMD laptop for around £600.

AMD are just doing the same crap they did during the Athlon 64 era when they got a bit cocky. Lets see where the Ryzen 5 5600 non-X lands,I suspect it will be closer to £250. We can party like its 2017,ie,under £200 is back to quad cores.

    Edit!!

The $300 Ryzen 5 5600X comes with the Wraith Stealth. The previous X series CPUs(even the 65W TDP Ryzen 7 3700X) came with the higher tier Wraith Spire and Wraith Prism CPU coolers. The non-X parts came with the el-cheapo Wraith Stealth. AMD have basicaly pushed up the the Ryzen 5 3600 replacement up a tier.

    Re: AMD Zen3 event thread

Pricing is a little bit disappointing, but can you blame them? They're obviously positioning themselves as market leaders, and I don't blame them. The pricing structure is a little off +$150 for 2 extra core, then+$100 for 4 extra costs on top of that, finally +$250 for a further 4 cores

They're making the 5900X look very competitive and the 5800X a bit of poor deal in the context of the lineup. If I was buying I'd be tempted to just spend the extra 22% for the extra 50% core count, between the 5800X and 5900X.

Still given the performance and their market position, I think the pricing is just about acceptable, especially the 5900X. Disappointed with the 5600X pricing given it's only 6 cores, that really should have been $250

I would have liked to seen:

    5600X @ $250
    5800X @ $350
    5900X @ $500
    5900X @ $700

That seems like a more logical price progression, but it is what it is. I'll stick with my 3700X for a couple more generations anyway I suspect.

They are too overpriced relative to both Zen2 and Intel Cometlake for me. So its a hard pass from me,looking at the AMD performance figures(I updated the OP).

    Also AWD-IT sell the Ryzen 9 3900 non-X for £325.

The issue is in some older games,Intel is still noticeably better than AMD even with Zen2. Zen3 looks like it might get to parity with Intel in them. Now I wish I had spent the extra £200 on a Core i7 8700K a few years ago.

Even if I sell my Ryzen 5 2600,assume my B450 motherboard will get a BIOS update, and spend nearly £300 on a Ryzen 5 5600X,I haven't really saved any money. Also I am stuck with a 6C with broadly similar gaming performance.

I was expecting Ryzen 7 8 core for around £300. I expect the Ryzen 7 5700X to be at least £350 looking at this.

I hope Intel returns back with something decent in 2022,after the fiasco of AMD artificially locking out PCI-E 4.0 and trying to do the same with Zen3,its starting to leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Zen3 capable BIOSes for B450/X470 won't be out until next year:
