According to what I have read, the CPU operates with a 3.8GHz base frequency and 4.7GHz maximum boost. Mine appears to keep ramping the frequency until thermals stop it from doing any more.
I'm getting 4.85Ghz across all the cores... Bug or golden ?

Isn't that what Zen2 does too with PBO,etc??
As above, I believe that's what PBO is? Could well be something board related too (Asus used to do this on Intel 'Multi-core enhancement').
I haven't actually got the setting turned on my board (not had a proper flick through the BIOS yet) but I have seen it hit 4.9GHz in certain circumstances.
5800X @ stock, DH15 cooler and B550I AX Pro for me.
I don't know if things have changed between Ryzen 3000 and 5000 but according to Gamers Hexus, Precision Boost 2 should not clock your CPU higher than the quoted stock boost clock however in their testing it seemed to be mainly dependent on temperature they did experience it boosting higher than the stock boost clock - that may be down to the motherboard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7NzNi1xX_4
PBO is a feature that raises stock power limits whole AutoOC can raise the clock up to 200Mhz over the quoted stock boost clocks but in reality they don't do anything on 3000 series CPUs. Not sure which settings you have enabled but I'd say just enjoy your nice boost clocks!

I did notice my 3700X (stock BIOS settings, I don't overclock) went faster after I upgraded from the box cooler to this cheap tower job so that is thermal limited as well despite the 140mm fans in the big empty case. Sounds like the 5000 series push that bit harder, on top of already being a better IPC to start with.
My 3950x boosts on 4 cores to about 4.75ghz with PBO quite regularly (Boost 4.7). I get on average sigificantly better clocks with PBO when I run my fan on high/full from the beginning (U14S), though I dont lose too much performance with it constantly running as quiet as it runs. So yeah Id definitely agree with a better cooling per dB (and still being a good cooler) solution is the best way to go for at least the higher core chips.
Yes - it's running a 360 AIO on the basis that it would allow the chip to reach it's full boost. I wasn't expecting it to achieve quite a bit more than it's max rated frequency !Quote:

Yes, mine boosts like mad if the temps are in check, -0.5 offset with Power Curve -10, it hits 4.8/9ish, 88c in Realbench, even undervolting PBO can be really aggressive, it seems to just carrying boosting till temp/power/stability becomes an issue.Quote:
