Just upgraded....
So I have had enough of the Vista crashes, poor network performance and general hassle so I've just moved to a new operating system called XP.... it's far more reliable and responsive, and infact generally just works... :)
... I can't wait to get all of the latest drivers installed ;)
-
I couldnt agree more, I hate vista more by the day.
I have a dual boot thing for periodic stress relief.
-
lovely... and ive just installed vista with my XP.. be patient with vista i suppose :S
-
-
I've been running it now for 3 months - and I simply do not get on withi it...
- Performance
- Reliability
These are the 2 things which have sent me over the edge.

I find this all rather strange. I have vista running on 3 computers: HTPC, Lappy and my new gaming rig. I have had no problems with the first 2 and the HTPC works fantastically with my xbox 360. I am waiting to see what happens with gaming! Then again I suppose I am not doing anything fancy I guess.

Since installing Vista x64 Ultimate the only problem I've had is with the driver for my X-Fi Platinum card. No crashes, lock-ups, nothing.
My only real bugbear is some of my old games don't work, but apart from that, it's all good.

I have been running x86 home premium on my laptop for around 3 months, and x64 on my main pc for around a month, and they are both suffering from the same problem, which is caused by installing windows updates, and the problem is that windows mail is horribly slow to navigate, and that also slows down ie7.
Windows media player uses what amounts to over an entire core's worth of cpu power of a 3.2Ghz quad), just to play an MP3. Various other processes use large amounts of cpu and RAM to do pretty much nothing.
The indexing thing sometimes works, but mostly doesnt, even when I let it index the entire computer, it still cant find things.
Regular periods of frozenness, that seem to right themselves after a few seconds, bsods when installing whql drivers..the list goes on

There have been many network issues, one i had recently was just through swapping to a new router. Lost my connection alltogether, & even though I could succesfully ping my router no browsers apart from IE7x64 would work. Turned out it was Nod32, un-installed & re-installed & all was fine. Browsing still 'seems' slower tho, but I've changed provider so it may be that.
Odd...

I gotta say - Vista isn't all that bad, but I need something reliable which isn't going to die on me.
I moved to XP late last night and had no problems at all so far... well mebbe a white lie due to ATI CCC being a bit pathetic...
-
Haha CCC is another great 'upgrade' that people really don't want.
