Odd behavior of the older generation at the airport?
Some odd ones for today.... I'm currently sat in Bristol airport - about to take a flight to France. Anyhow - the reason for this post is - I don't often fly via the 'local' airports, typically I fly from Heathrow - sometimes Gatwick. The trip started off with a rather nice drive down (apart from when you have to drive through half of Bristol to get to the airport...) I rocked up - parked in Long Stay (35 for 3 days...) Anyhow - I walked to the terminal - took me about a minute or so - straight in no queues up to the desk, checked in, walked to security straight through it - 12 minutes from parking.... I'm DONE!
So - that was the 'nice' bit - now next small, odd query. I am sitting here and there must be say, 30 people in the room and there is 2 (including me!) who are drinking tea or coffee... what is it about airports which seems to make people think that drinking is normal at 5am...? I could understand it if people were about to jump on long haul flights, but c'mon typically people here are taking a flight of 2 hours maximum... it simply doesn't make sense. And before people call me a spoil sport - people who know me (and some that don't!) know I love to drink - nothing wrong with it, but at 5am... odd.
Anyway the ironic twist to this - most people in the room are 30+ and they must be on their 2nd or 3rd already... and these are probably the people who moan about the youth drinking problems…
Anyway, rant over, guess I should go get a pint to relax?
And just a side note (for all the HEXUS guys esp!) I turned up at the airport 2 hours before my European flight - and I wasn't late, I will photograph my parking slip later to prove this, so none of this HEXUS stitch up moaning about me always being the last to the airport often 30 mins before the flight takes off. ;)

Hah! Likely story. Unless you have a police statement to that effect then I still won't beleive it. I could photoshop you being on time 100 times over, police statements would be the only qualifying material.
I've flow with you twice, once we missed the flight completely and the second time Nick was having to use every single chat up line in the encyclopedia just to get the check-in desk to stay open....
oh and before I sign off....I hope England win and I hate the fact you are going to it :D

My father-in-law (late 60s) is the same.
Regardless of the time of day he'll have a pint in the airport lounge and then a whiskey once we're in the air.
Makes him feel relaxed he says. Unless I've been drinking all night, there's no way on earth I could stomach a pint that early in the morning.

It worked though... AND I got me some mile-high action later off that one! :P
Ok., it was a solo flight but still counts in my book.
Enjoy the game and make sure England win... oh, and if you see Martin tell him I said hello.

Is there such a thing as a straight coffee for you?
I'm sure there was some Irish in it. :)

A question I've been pondering for years! I'm frequently at Heathrow/Luton/Stansted airport at silly o'clock and while I'm sitting in the lounge looking for cocktail sticks to prop my eyelids open with I see loads of people knocking back scotch or lager. I think an element of it is that the booze is free, so if it's free they'll have it.

its not just that, having come back from the US a few weeks ago i know its got more about time differences than anything else lol

Just hope that the pilot isn't in there as well.

I was delayed flying back from Arlanda a couple of years back because the BA pilot was busy being arrested for being over the limit.
I hope history doesn't repeat itself as I'm due to get into a taxi in about 10 minutes and head off to Arlanda.
