    Leaving the office?

I am lucky, I can work from wanywhere in the world with a laptop and a mobile phone - but doesn't mean I like to. I travel a lot for the company, and yes it is great - but it does drain you a lot. For example I drove home last night at 2am, normally I would check my email then go to bed. This is on any day of the week.

Anyway, this week I picked up a Blackberry from Scancom.co.uk, something I have always thought about having but only just got. Even though I have an M2000 - I find it a pain to use. I get about 200 emails a day sometimes a lot more. I have to say, since getting this Blackberry it has changed my life - and it has only been 4 days. I no longer need to hit a PC to get my email - I already know whats in my inbox. Take for example today, HEXUS got hit by a Slashdot, I was at the Supermarket, I got an email about the influx and actioned it before I got home. Normally, I would have a call to say something has gone wrong.

So now I am in an interesting situation, I have before happily left my house with my notebook and my phone - now all I need is one device, the Blackberry - simple huh?

If you are not familiar with the devices they seem to be getting very popular, RIM have developed a solution which pushes the emails without attachments to your handset, instead of setting it to send and recieve or having to request them.

So, I am off to Paris on Tuesday - I won't take my notebook, I will have my Blackberry which I can deal with all my emails on - and my phone, if that is it's lucky.

I have to be in touch - and without these tools it would be harder. Slowly I see myself disconnecting from the digital world, that is, until it calls me.

For the sake of 10 words or forwarding or a follow up call - I think they rock

    How about this:

    Crackberry users go cold turkey

US BlackBerry users had time to get on with their lives on Friday morning when a service problem stopped their mobile devices receiving emails.

Blackberry's are great for on the move email - simply fantastic - we use them at work here, and they've become an essential part of our working day, especially for people who aren't based in an office, and travel site to site. Mine did make my RSI pretty bad but so long as you don't use it too much it should be fine

Blackberry Enterprise server is "intresting" to work with

Microsoft are aiming directly for the jugular with their updates to Mobile Information Server - the push notifications are supported by your M2000 , its just that the UK phone providers wont accept that <phonenumber>@prider.com shoudl generate an SMS to your phone.

Persoanlly, given a choice between spending thousands to make my company dependent upon RIM or thousands to buy Exchange 2003 Enterprise + CALs, I know where my money'd go, and it ISN'T to Canada...

Seriously, the Blackberry devices I've seen are just, well, nasty. Personally, if I were going down that route, I'd wait, get Exchange 2003 and get devices like the HTC Universal, when they become more broadly available.

Which one did you go for? What do you think of it, i was looking around on scancom.co.uk and the t-mobile MDAIII looks very appealing to me. And i am very tempted to get one
