Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
for monitors you have a few things to consider, image quality, price, resolution....i think thats it.
24" is a great size and resolution, with the prices coming down i think £250 is enough to get yourself a decent screen. samsung are usually good, they make the panels most other companies use!
usually cheaper monitors are older versions, even if it has basically the same info, ie 1900x1200, 6ms, contrast etc there is always something better in the newer panels (obviously) but you do pay for that extra quality. someone also mention about 8bit displays, which are able to display far more colours than 6bit displays and are therefore better at accurate display (with the right config as per manufacturer)
if i was buying right now i'd do exactly what you are, 24" 8 bit, i'd stick to samsung or dell as they have consistently produced good screens.
as for your graphics card it's fine driving the display at 1900x1200, games would be another matter though!it'd struggle with anything that came out this...last year.
for video it's best to stick to it's native resolution rather than stretching the picture. most vids could be played in a window at 2x resolution that wouldn't distort the image hardly.
hope this helps.

Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
Think its the samsung ill go for, im a real fan of their products & would rather pay a bit more for the peice of mind in terms of quality & after sales support, which iv found 2 be 2nd to non.
Whats the difference between TN and PVA(?) panels, iv googled it but all i get is a lot of technical terms, can anyone give me a shortened down version?
Also the samsung is the 8bit right? just want to make sure.
cheers guys, much appriciated! :)

Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
I've to the Dell 2407WFP Rev A04. Fortunately it doesn't have the ghosting issues that seem to be a problem for the HC version. Very happy with it overall.
I've I was buying now I'd almost certainly go for the Overclockers monitor. Looks great for the money, especially given the viewing angles.
Just thought I'd give PCBuyit a mention. I got my monitor from them and they do a zero dead pixel guarentee on all their dell monitors. Their service was prompt and you can't beat their warranty, even with Dell. They have the Dell 24" TN in stock at the moment for £287.88 - this screen has none of the ghosting issues of the HC AFAIK.
Dell 24"
Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
I'm another with a Dell 2407WFP-HC and I also got it from PCBuyIt for their 4 year warranty and no dead pixel guarantee. I have no complaints with it, although you do have to play with the settings out the box to get the best out of it and to lose the ghosting (I could see some when I first get it, but can't see any now). The large number of inputs into it is great. I have found the 4 USB ports and card reader are also handy as well.
Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
So what would other people go for the Dell 2407WFP-HC or the Dell 2407WFP Rev 04?
Im thinking of getting the Dell 2407WFP Rev 04 which will be cheaper than the Hyundai. Plus i also read its not a common TN panel and has no backlight bleed though i have read of some people having some.
Uriel, any back light bleed on your 2407WFP?
I want to buy the monitor from ebay, any chance a Dell warranty can be transferred to a new owner?
Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
Fairly sure you get the dell warranty.
2407wfp is widely regarded as one the best. I love my 2007WFP, best monitor i've ever had.
I thought they had fixed the ghosting on HC's now. But neither model will disappoint you.

The 24" monitor you mentioned in your first post seems to be really really good. Judging by some really good pictures of that monitor it looks perfect. Though it doesnt have the connections or the adjustability of the dell its well worth the money, and its NOT a TN Panel.
It however isnt HDCP compliant, which means what? Is there anything that currently requires HDCP?
Here are the pictures of the setup.

Just make sure its a PVA panel, a representative of OcUK "Gibbon" in November last year said
"Plus the OcUK batch are definetely PVA panels with excellent viewing angles, as such other models offered elsewhere could feature a different panel which could be inferior or superior."
Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
Wow - some great pictures of the DGM in there! I have to admit that the colours look so vibrant and crisp - especially the Crysis picture. Might have something to do with the glossy front... Still, for the money, it seems a bargain, and there have been plenty of people who are happy with it too. But I'm happy with my Samsung for now, unless these prices keep heading south.... :)
Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
Yeah a lot of people are raving about it.
I'm no expert in the area of HDTV but I believe you need HDCP for Blu-Ray and some HD DVD's,as compaines can elect whether to use it or not on HD DVD, which is one good reason for it to win I guess.
Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?

Panels effect viewing angles, TN panels dont have very good viewing angles, PV panels do.

Here you'll see a clear difference between PV and TN.
Re: 24" monitors - peoples opinions?
i got a 24' acer, it has hdmi and dvi inputs, and obviously full hd.
cost me about 200, i dont know the name but i recommend it alot, the quality is much better than my asus 19' , aprently this has a 2ms reaction time!.
maybe its not out in uk yet, do a google search, its shiny black including the display itself, kinda looks like glass.
