20 Inch monitors - Which one to get ?

It's my birthday next month, so have decided that with any money I get to put towards a 20 Inch WS TFT. Technically there is nothing wrong with the Sony 17 Inch TFT I have now. IT's been a great bit of kit, and am wondering if I got rid of it to go 20 inch WS wouldI regret it.

I play games more than I do anything else, I mostly play TF2 and GTR Evolution and soon to be NFS Undercover when that comes out. Currently running a GeForce 8800 GT 512 meg card, would I need to get a new card if I were to get a bigger monitor so that I could run games at full res ?

Really am quite out of touch with TFT's these days since I bought my Sony.

    I quite like this one - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143040

But am open to suggestions. I can't really go any bigger than 20, smallish room and smallish desk.

i have the same graphics card and run 1900x1200 fine so dont worry about upgrading tbh, if your getting towards 20-25 fps then just lower the settings a notch

Re: 20 Inch monitors - Which one to get ?

I'm in a simular situtation to you, but still saveing up probably around christmas and hopefully get on in a sale

I would say take some measurements, a 21" is not much larger (in theory about 2-3cm wider)
Must say that Samaung looks very good, for both price and looks

must admit the Cibox C2202D 22" looks tempting at £120 Althoug I do find thoes videos on ebuyer so annoying
    and the customer reviews . . .
I got this LSD this morning and quickly set it up and I am very happy, the build is strong and the picture is very good.
I didn't realise Ebuyer sold hallucinogenic substances now.

Re: 20 Inch monitors - Which one to get ?

I have calculated the size of different TFT panels so for your information a 20" screen will be 16.96" wide and a 22" screen will be 18.66" wide this does not take into account bezel size.

Since both size of monitor (on the whole) have the same resolution 1680*1050 the 20" will actually give you a sharper image but text will be noticably smaller as the pixel density is much higher 22" 90 pixels per inch 20" 99 pixels per inch, as a comparison a 24" monitor at 1920*1200 has 94ppi (oh and is 20.35" wide plus bezel).

You could consider one of the current crop of 22" 16:9 monitors which have a resolution of 1920*1080.

I have the Cibox C220D and it has served me well for ~1.5 years over all nothing to complain about a bit of back light bleed around the edges but then again for the money you will probably not find a better monitor or at least not one which doesn't have some alternative flaw!

I'm really happy with my LG monitor (Although Iiyama was also a close second choice!)

Its extremely subjective to ask opinions on monitors as some people are happy with any LCD while others have more sensitive eyes. A good resource to check out the panels would be prad.de or behardware. For games you would need to check the response times and the input lag section of their reviews

I see what your saying there, must admit to being quite tempted ti try one of the 22 inch jobbies that Aria are selling for silly cheap money.

On the flipside of that where I work we are selling Samsung 22 inch 200 or whatever the model is for £200 a go, with my 10% sraff discount I get it for £180, a good £50 cheaper than on the internet !!

Re: 20 Inch monitors - Which one to get ?

I ordered the Samung 20 Inch on Ebuyer just a few moments ago, saw that the stock was drying up sp thought I'd better get in first.

Quick question, how much is my current Sony 17 Inch TFT worth ??

Re: 20 Inch monitors - Which one to get ?

    The quick answer: Not much.

Why not just keep your old one and have two?

It really does make so many things easier having more than one.

(But I think my 5 is pushing it...)

Re: 20 Inch monitors - Which one to get ?

No room on the desk, when the Sammy comes I'm going to have to modify my desk to fit it.

Annoyingly, for £7 more I could have had a Dell 2009 !! Still I'm happy with what I've ordered in all honesty.

Re: 20 Inch monitors - Which one to get ?

Sorry to hijack your thread but its a similar request. Whats a good cheap 19/20" monitor, for my dads computer as hes stuck with an old crt and the text is hardly readable, needs to be less than £100 and be just a bit better then OK, not used for films or games so as long as its good looking(black ) then its good.
