Highest quality monitors on the market
What are the highest quality (in terms of fastest refresh, accurate color, and all of that good stuff) monitors?
Ideally I want the best 22" monitor that I can get.
Something crystal clear and fast, with no ghosting...
If there was a list of the top 5 best monitors in the world at this moment, what would they be?
Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
fast refresh rates and accurate colour do not go hand in hand.
What do you want this for?
For colour accuracy I would probably go for a 24" Eizo or even a LaCie. Note the price compaired to your average panel with a "2ms" response time.
Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
My guess is the purpose of this monitor is for gaming and movie watching. So any VA or IPS panel would be a good start, the Hazro HZ26Wi having a 7.5ms input lag but needing colour calibration to get the most out of it. Other contenders are the Dell 2408WFP, BenQ FP241W and HP LP2475W. :)
Unless you want to do proper graphical work and then one of the Lacie's will sort you out nicely.
Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
I want the monitor for gaming.
I'd like to never see ghosting, and to experience good quality... I care more about performance than image quality, but I would like to have the best performance and good image quality, not horrible cheap quality...
Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
Well that makes things very different. You should have said to start with :)

lol yeah... sorry :)
I know the lowest response rate is best... but I don't think all of the companies tell the truth, its just marketing...
So what monitor truly does deliver high performance? good viewing angle... you know, good for gaming... but also good quality image without sacrificing performance
thanks

Hazro HZ26Wi and HP LP2475W are both H-IPS panels with low input lag.
Not quite 22" that you are after but gives you a good idea of what a good 24" monitor is.
Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
A VA or TN panel is far better for response times than an IPS panel
What you need to be aware of is how companies fudge the numbers and the tricks they can use to increase the response times and image quality.
Standard tricks include,
Increasing perception contrast, all glossy screens use this trick, the glossy coating/layer is also filtered (like sunglasses) filtering shifts the colour range into areas where the human eye is more perceptive of the contrast. so even though the contrast is the same or even slightly lowered it looks higher to the human eye. they also have to increase the brightness of the back light to make up for the reduction caused by the filtering.
Reducing response times, one trick to improve the black to black response time is to add flicker to the back light. That's they take a non-flickering monitor and then add flicker to it.
The actual response time of the lcd is not changed, but again the perceived response time is improved.
All told a good VA panel is the best bet for a rounded and balanced quality.
My advice is go to some shops see the monitors working in the flesh.

I based my response on the "good viewing angle" bit and good image quality.
Using TFTCentral reviews is pretty good as they explain things like RTC overshoot and how you can spot it etc.
I have heard good things about the Samsung TN panels but the price of some of those encrouch on getting the P-MVA panel BenQ FP241W.
After owning a TN panel and viewing the Viewsonic 24" TN panel (I forget model name), its nice for gaming head on but for anything else, it's pretty poor.
Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
in the last year or two, don't think you could have gone wrong with a dell
Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
As others have said the best gaming panels are all TN. This usually entails fast pixel response and low input lag. However, on the flip side they will generally not compare to PVA or IPS when it comes to viewing angle or colour reproduction. As this point in time you have to choose a priority in terms of best response versus viewing angles and colour reproduction. In the past IPS was the balance but there will be trade offs as well.
Unfortunately I can't recommend any TN's as I don't use them. Only PVA and IPS suit my requirements.

that's why I said a P-MVA panel for best all round ballance
IPS tend to be very expensive.
TN are better than they were a couple of years ago, intresting to note, TN viewing angle has improved but only in one access, normally the horisontal angle is quite good but the vertical is bad.
One thing I would sugest is a fully adjustable stand :) they tend to come as standard only on the more expensive monitors but can be bought seperately.
They will be far more solid and less wobbly than a simple tilt stand and are a nice investment.
In my last post VA = P-MVA, But I couldn't remember the full name at the time

On a thread called "Highest quality monitors on the market" you'd think that wouldn't matter .

Not necesssarily...
Dell 2408WFP S-PVA panel
HP LP2475W H-IPS panel
Of course that was a sample search on ONE site.
Anyhow prices of monitors are increasing all the time :( That HP monitor WAS £380 2 weeks ago.

I agree there but unfortunately that's not actually what he wants

Re: Highest quality monitors on the market
According to TFTCentral it's an H-IPS panel made by L.G. Display.
To me those are cheap 24" monitors...much cheaper than Eizos :D
