    Monitors

I need to buy a new monitor to replace by syncmaster, and it needs to be a TFT as a CRT will destroy the last desk room i have.

Have been looking at the 120hz tfts that have just come out and have looked at:

    22" Viewsonic VX2268wm

    (would link but cant)

have read a few reviews and everything, but i was wondering if anyone knew of any new monitors close to release that could beat this

    cheers

I don't know too much about monitors, but I'll give you a bit of a bump..

What's your price range, and are there any features you would particularly like, such as inputs or resolutions? Does it have to be "3D Ready" like the one you listed? Maybe if you specify people will chime in with similar sounding products they own.

Personally I've been eyeing up the top end of Asus' product range with a view to replacing my 17" panel with a huge bezel.

It all depends on what you're after, and what's your budget.
I bought an LG W2343T and I'm very happy with it.

    Re: Monitors

I would be very careful about the 120hz monitors, I hear something dodgy about it being fake, look into it.

    I have the Samsung T220 22"

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/544778...k/Product.html

You can get it for about £130 now. its very decent.

However, look into the Iiyama ProLite B2206WS, more expensive but, I would have got that one for gaming, if i nee what I know now.

Get a Dell, you will only kick yourself when other monitors go wrong, i've had a fair share of other brands, but Dell's service is unrivalled imo.

I use the 22" Dell 2209WA Ultrasharp its great with movies or games. If you do go for a Dell, buying through PC Buy It will get you a full 3 year cover plan.

That said I've seen so many horror storries on other forums about people getting dodgy monitors back from Dell as repalcements. Some poor guy got his original monitor he sent back after having 4 deffective replacements, and they hadn't even bothered to repair it.

I'm a Samsung man myself, been very very happy with my 2053BW.

LG and HP displays are also worth a look

    Re: Monitors

    omg omg omg omg OMG!!!

It's not in the 'Graphics cards and Monitors' forum but having got that off my chest..

I hope viewsonic are better these days because the ones I bought a few years back are all popping. Pop pop pop pop pop POP!! Pull the power lead and plug it back in and it stops popping. I RMA'd some with DVI connection and got D-SUB only back as replacements.

I got annoyed with Samsung running a panel lottery.

My main screen is actually a Dell 2209WA. Recently I bought the cheapest DVI 1920x1080 screens I could find with a half decent review which turned out to be a BenQ branded 21.5" monitor and I really do like them.

    Re: Monitors

You just dont really need 120Hz unless you want 3d. You might be limited by fps is some games anyway.

yeh think i read somewhere that one of the samsung monitors displays 60hz for each eye and isnt actually 120hz, if that makes sense it only emulates it

    Re: Monitors

These 120MHz monitors are a load of crap. It's not like the days of CRT where MHz mattered. It's only a concern where 3D-vision games are important (note, I don't mean 3D vision games, and I mean games which give the extra illusion of 3D... of which how many are available? Are any out?). Refresh rate isn't a concern of TFT monitors.

Ignore the marketing bull and get yourself a decent monitor. An HP LP2475W or Dell 2408WFP (I'd go for the former personally).

That's how these "3D" monitors work.

I'd just like to take this opportunity (no idea why I picked this one mind) to say that I always appreciate your posts mate, because I read your username and can't help but smile. Never ask for a name change, it would ruin a little part of Hexus .

Hi wildcard I'm also thinking, well about to buy a couple of these monitors too as one of mine just died and that is a ViewSonic. I've not had any problems for the last 4 years with my two old ones (ViewSonic VX912).

Just spend the last few hours doing my research and hope it's going to be good though I am also going to be playing with the NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision Glasses Kit so need this type of monitor.

With regards to the 120Hz from what I have been able to tell putting the driver issues and all behind for the lower resolutions that seem to not support 120Hz without some playing with (this will get sorted in time if not already). As I understand it the 120Hz is divided by 60Hz per eye making a total of 120Hz and this is needed for the 3d side of things to work.

If you are not going to use 3D then this would be a waste of money as of the high price. I am looking from the point of using the 3D Vision Glasses Kit as I intent to have a play with.

Hope this helps someone, if I'm wrong please correct me as I'm no expert. Thanks

    Re: Monitors

I seriously doubt the human eye can detect much difference between 60 and 120Hz unless used for 3D vision (where it is effectively used as two 60 Hz displays interleaved).
