    PLS Monitors

    Hey guys,

I was browsing the interwebs, as you do, when I stumbled upon a monitor panel type I'd never heard of - PLS. It was 2 samsung monitors, a 24" and a 27". It said "Samsung has put its faith in the fresh PLS technology that promises better performance over the popular IPS panels.".

Now, I'm looking for a monitor for gaming. Currently I was thinking about getting an LG IPS236V, obviously an IPS monitor. However, there were qualms about pretty slow GTG response.

The PLS said "Other specfications for both monitors is 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time (GtG) and 300 cd/m² brightness.", and I'd assume a better response time would be a plus for gaming.

The LG looks more targeted to home-user in specs and appearance, whereas the Samsungs are more professional (e.g., 1920x1200 as opposed to the LG 1920x1080)

Does anyone have any knowledge in this new technology, and would the response make much difference in my gaming?

    Thanks

    The 24" S24A850DW is around £355 to £373:

I would look at the peripherals guide on the Hexus PC guide for some monitor suggestions under £200:

The Samsung SM2233RZ is great for gaming but has poor viewing angles. The Asus ML239H is worth a look IMHO although it does not have height adjustment and lacks a DVI input.

Cor! They are expensive! I didn't realise

That TN Samsung is nice. But I guess it's response vs colour. I think I'll stick with the 23" LG IPS in your guide. I heard the response isn't noticable.
