Is my monitor on the way out?

I have a 20" sony trinitron CRT which I've had for years and has been faultless. In the past week though, when I turn it on, it's like you've turned the contrast or brightness up too high, all of the colours look a little washed out.

After being on for a while, you see the screen flickering a bit and it sorts itself out and then it's fine until I turn it off. If I turn the screen off and on I still get this slight washed out look, and then is fine after being on for a bit.

If it is on it's way, do CRT's get worse and worse and then go or just go?

If it does go, I'll obviously need a new monitor. Is it possible to get a good screen, with full HD for less than £200?

What should I look for in a screen - contrast ratio? response time? etc.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Sounds like it's poorly, may be repairable but the trick is finding someone who can repair it.

You can indeed get a decent full GD panel these days for approx £200, I seem to recall my HP X23LED came to £179.
