23" Asus VG236H + nVidia 3D Glasses
So here's my situation:
I've seen the ASUS monitor and I'm thinking that I really want to sell my current, standard 22" 16:10 1680x1050 monitor and get it, given that it comes with nVidia 3D glasses. I haven't seen any cheaper nVidia 3d-compatible monitors.
The dilemma I'm facing is that the cost of selling my current monitor and buying the ASUS would push my affordability limits to the absolute max, verging on "I really just shouldn't buy this" territory (I'm completely overhauling my rig in addition to this)
Is this monitor really good enough to warrant minor financial strain?!

Thanks for your advice :-) In the end, I pretty much went with what you said and I'm waiting until it comes up in the sales or is generally a lot cheaper...and have both monitors :-)

Cheaper option to consider http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-lg...-m2-50000001-5
This monitor uses a different system, instead of running at 120hz and using the nvidia shutter glasses, it uses a simpler interlacing system, alternate lines are polarised and the glasses are just a pair of alternate polarised lenses.
It still works with the nvidia 3d drivers so software isn't an issue.
Some people say that it's a negative that it's only half the resolution, but that's not quite precise, due to the way the brain works, taking the image from each eye and combining them into one.
the big issue for resolution is actually from leakage if the interlacing isn't precise then you can get leakage from one eye to the other which can make things a bit blury.
(I've not heard of any leakage issues with this monitor)
The big advantage is that it's passive and flicker free.
So you don't have any charging issues (I cannot find out how long a charge lasts on the nvidia glasses, but you can plug them in and still use them, so it's fairly minor)
No sync issues, the newer glasses are far better at this but still not 100%, it's a very minor issue now.
No flicker, this is my big issue with the shutter system nvidia uses, the glasses are adding a 60hz flicker which will give me a blinding head ache after an hour or so.
On major advantage to the nvidia shutter system is when you turn off the 3d you've got a 120hz monitor, with an interlaced monitor you've still got a 60hz monitor.

Don't underestimate having a 120Hz monitor for normal use. It makes a huge difference and you will wonder why people 'put up with' 60Hz.

I've been saying this for years, and are often banging my head against the "The eyes can't see more than 24 frames per second" crowd :wallbash:
I have a CRT next to me here because at 120Hz, nothing I've seen has come close to it in terms of precision. Can't wait to get my hands on one of the new(er) 120Hz monitors that are appearing :)
