Cheer Phage, that is the one thing I have read a lot about is how bright it is. The comparison will not be kind with my current monitor either.
Just got a nice payout from my NI bonds so that makes the 2410 quite tempting, should be at least as good as the 2412M for gaming with some nice added features which although I may not use them all should be useful for my photography (might have to go make and re-edit some pictures if the differences are that big - current monitor is no doubt crap).
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
snootyjim - bloody hell you running a whole Server farm with all those computers in your house, hate to see what your Electy bill it like :P
You must be doing reports for the MET office or nasa right hehe
hnosyalnif, if money is'nt the issue go for the 2410, as thats better for photos and has the little extra features , but if you want all purpose then 2412M will do you fine.
if it was Just gaming Benq would be the best choice. - Photo, Video editing is'nt the best on the Benq XL2420T which i am using, Gaming has never been better jsut RAWKZ
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
Yeah, I could afford the 2410 however I don't need the extra gamut or the extra features. From what I read the 2412M is slightly better for gaming therefore I will be getting one of them and save the extra £130 for something else further down the line.
2412M seems the best all round monitor for what I wish to do - games, photos, movies, tv etc.
Looked at the BenQ but discounted it because of the way it does photos/videos etc (and the fact the 3D is Nvidia only for now). But I decided 3D wasn't a feature I would use at the moment and would perhaps be something I would consider for a second monitor.
Have the money to buy now but just waiting to see if any deals come up for the Dell.
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
How would you compare the above monitors with the Asus PA238Q? Many reviews suggest its an excellent monitor and the best ips panel for gaming so far.
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
I have a 20" NEC 20WGX2 which is about 7 years old. I don't know if NEC are still making IPS monitors but I really rate the PQ.
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
My current monitor is a NEC 90GX2 Pro, a 19inch, it has served me well for the last 6 years, I cannot fault it. NEC only focuses on professional monitors these days which run at about £800+ from 24" and above...much like the EIZO's
Yeah the PA238Q seems to be a good deal at the £200 mark, I'm eye sugaring the bigger PA246Q but its double the price! Asus shows a new 24" LED monitor on their site the PA248Q alhtouvg price and availability are still unknown...Still contemplating on which one to buy :shocked2:

Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
Well i bough the Dell U2412M and the in-game experience is great!! All colours are great everything is sharp as it should be, and even noticing gfx my old monitor could not really show. My only - for the monitor is when looking at a white background, it looks like there is tracing paper over it :| If you hold tracing paper to the light you will see the white in it, but also some black see through bits (best I can explain it)
The reason I went for the Dell over the Hazro HZ27WC 8-Bit 27" LED, was because I was not sure if my HD6950 gfx card would hold up with the screen during gaming. Can anyone tell me if it would or would not?
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
According to the readers of Bit Tech you'd want CF on your 6950 for a good fps.

Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
I'm looking for an IPS monitor at the more budget end of the spectrum (i.e. £130). It's going to be directly in front of me, so I don't need the stand to do anything fancy. But I do need the screen to be good.
I've heard good things about the AOC I2352VH and also the LG IPS235-V. Are there others that I've missed? Which of these would you go for?

Sorry for the late reply.
Though if you are still looking, I am really happy with my LG IPS235. I can't really compare it to anything else as I had a laptop previously. Though compared to the 30" Dell monster that I use at uni it good. It does not have a fancy base, the base does feel a like it should be a bit heavier, but I don't move the monitor about so it sits just fine on the desk. I can't comment on the AOC, though I think it may have the same panel as the LG.
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
The LG IPS235 is a good choice
Re: IPS Monitor for PC gaming?
I use the LG IPS235. The colours are amazing.

It is a good monitor but the stand is awful almost no adjustability I have the LG IPS231 the stand doesnt compare to the DELL U2412HM which I also own but its miles better than not having that ability you should look for adjustability aswell as having IPS.
