    Should I upgrade my monitors?

    Hey,
As above, I'm currently deciding whether I should sell one or both of my current monitors (U2311H in portrait and Hanns.G 28")
And then get a 27/30" IPS panel with a 1440/1600p res.

Been looking at the cheap 27" ones from Korea, which use the same LG panels as all the others as far as I'm aware, just without the fancy stands etc, which isn't too much of an issue.
Main uses for my PC are gaming, watching various media, then just browsing/working

The choices I can think of are:
    1) Stay as I am, spend money on other things maybe
    2) Sell my Hanns.G then get a 27/30"
    3) Sell both and get a 27/30"

Not sure how much I can afford, would depend how much I'd be able to sell my current monitors for etc.

Or ofcourse should I spend my money elsewhere entirely
    What would people recommend?

I would upgrade your GTX260 to something newer then look at monitors afterwards.

Re: Should I upgrade my monitors?

I recently downgraded from an i7/GTX570 setup (and earlier on in the year a GTX580) to this since I wanted to spend money on other areas of the PC rather than just the components, my current setup copes with everything i want it to without much of an issue, and gpus are something I can upgrade when I need to etc, the monitors are more of an investment.

I've gone from being a hardware whore, upgrading every month or so (well, buying new stuff and selling old atleast) to wanting to improve my interaction with my pc

My mind is totally blown, why would you upgrade every month and then downgrade?

I suggest a GPU upgrade because if you upgrade to a 30" screen with that sort of resolution then the GTX260 is going to run into problems with a lot of the newer games, but as you surely know, that all depends on the settings you use and what games you play if any.

Also, you didn't give a reason why you want some newer monitors or you just want to spend money because you can?

If anything, I suggest a 3 monitor setup with 1920x1200/1080 monitors, if you don't have the space for it, buy a new table.

Re: Should I upgrade my monitors?

Haha, I used to get very bored if I wasn't playing around with my PC, so I'd buy stuff and sell other stuff just to give me an excuse to play with it, but since I've been wanting to spend money on other things, I've slowed that down.
The llano setup does me fine, and I know the reasoning behind a gpu upgrade, but luckily I don't play many new games (newest game I play is anno 2070, and I'm ok playing it on low)

Haha good point, it's partially because I've got a bit of money from selling various bits and pieces (pc components mainly) and want some new stuff, and partially because it's something I've thought about doing for a loooooong time.
The increase in screen res would be helpful when working etc, and in theory the IPS panel would make watching films etc nicer (something I do a lot of)

What would be the benefits of the 3 monitor setup? And which monitors would you recommend? I'd almost certainly have to go for smaller ones to be able to afford it, and that wouldn't be as good for watching films/tv which is a big thing.
Also, I don't have the room atm, and I can't buy a bigger desk for my room at uni this year, although next year I will be getting a bigger one, can't remember the layout though

Re: Should I upgrade my monitors?

What sort of budget are we talking about?

Also If you interested in watching flims, what about adding a HDTV to the system like a 42"?

A 3 monitor setup would demand a new GPU upgrade since the GTX260 can only do two monitors, but if you go ahead at a later time then think of what you can do with two monitors but add a extra one. For example, as I type this, am watching The Cabin in the Woods on my left monitor, typing this on my center monitor while my right monitor acts as a command center with showing WinAmp, IRCd, PC information. Gaming on three monitors is pretty awesome as well.

Also, if you get very bored, sounds like you need a hobby! I can relate through, I was a little bored with my PC, so am in the process of re-building it after modding and sleeving.

Re: Should I upgrade my monitors?

Haha, it's not that I'm bored in general, merely bored with my PC, love tinkering with it Used to overlock/benchmark quite seriously, but due to monetary/time/space reasons haven't done so for a while, although am considering getting back into it over the summer.

Budget I'm not 100% sure on yet really, would partially depend on what I can get for my current monitors were I to sell.
I currently use my 2 monitors in a similar way, I'll be watching something in the 28", then got me forums, music player, chat clients etc on the DELL, works fine for me, the 3rd monitor would be overkill in my opinion

And I could get a TV or something, but would be awkward in terms of layout, and I'll often be doing other things while watching stuff, so would want to be sat at my desk. Also moving it would be a right pain, and since I move my whole setup atleast 6 times a year (to and from uni) and most of it more often (to and from LANs), wouldn't be my first choice.

Re: Should I upgrade my monitors?

Anyone have any experience with the cheap 27" IPS panels on ebay from Korea?
