    Monitor advice - gaming / height adjustable / 2ms / 24 inch / LED

    Dear all

I am soon to buy a new PC and am looking for a new monitor - all of the terminology is quite scary.

I am looking for a monitor that is:
    - ideal for gaming
    -24 inch,
    - height adjustable
    - LED (I read that LED is better for your eyes - and health is a primary concern for me)
    - 2ms (which I hear is ideal for gaming and to avoid ghosting)
    - Approx £150 budget

Can anyone make any recommendations of good quality monitors that meet the above criteria?

    Thanks!

    Hi Cactusjack,
with your budget you should have no trouble finding a suitable 24" Led monitor
Led vs Lcd is fairly basic, LED backlighting is what they are on about, which can result in sharper colours, and a reduction in power consumption.

Flat displays are not as bad on the eyes as old crt displays, and settings brightness/contrast to a comfortable level will do all the necessary work in reducing eye strain.
of course using any required/prescribed eyewear is essential with any screen.

That said, staring at any bright lightsource like a screen for long periods will have an effect. So use sensibly

anything under 12ms should be fine for gaming, casting my mind back to my first gaming TFT it was 15ms which was great for the tech I had at the time, however a 25ms monitor did show ghosting.
many monitors are 5ms and are just fine for the job.

height adjustable is less common, and will narrow suitable display options.
    something like this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/24-vi...-black-full-hd
leaving some room to grab a vesa stand in your budget
or just over budget with this one (height adjustable) http://www.ebuyer.com/240234-benq-bl...r-9h-l4rlb-sbe

    good luck

    Thanks Bo!

I am strongly considering this Dell U2412M Monitor at the moment - it is way over budget, but, it is an IPS panel and I have read that it is ok for gaming....

My Brother, about 9 friends and myself all have the Dell UltraSharp 2412M and it is an absolutely amazing monitor and perfect for gaming with no ghosting or any input lag that I've noticed, well worth going over budget for!!!

Scan also have it at a really good price, cheaper then buying it directly from Dell in fact!

If you get one you won't be disappointed

Thanks Rookie1986! A couple of questions:
    - If bought from a company other than Dell, do you know if the Dell 3 year warranty is still honored?
    - What types of games do you play on it? - MMORPGs, RPGs, first person, etc

    Thanks!

    Re: Monitor advice - gaming / height adjustable / 2ms / 24 inch / LED

Scan lists the warranty as 36 months on their site so that answers your first question - also all Dell UltraSharp monitors have a zero dead pixel warranty which is also really good news

I haven't played all that much on mine tbh (My system shipped with a faulty OC Bundle so it's back at Scan for repair) but I have watched my brother play League of Legends, Diablo III, StarWars the Old Republic, Battlefield 3, Team Fortress 2, Crysis, Deus Ex human revolution & Nexuiz.... There might be more I can't remember but none of these had any ghosting/input lag while playing them.

If your running an old TFT panelled monitor like I was before making the switch then you are really going to see a huge difference, I wish I had taken some photos when I did my side-by-side because the range of colours and clarity of the 2412M is just amazing.

    Re: Monitor advice - gaming / height adjustable / 2ms / 24 inch / LED

    Hi Cactusjack

the Dell certainly is an amazing monitor
a friend of mine bought an Iiyama IPS 23" monitor for his son, which also plays games extremely well, and they come in quite cheap especially when on offer. (He got his from CCL)

I think the old problem of ghosting from IPS tech has been dealt with and we are looking at 5ms or better.

Good luck with whichever monitor you decide to get.

On a warranty note, the standard manufacturers warranty for almost all screens out there is at least 3 years, this goes for TV's too, and manufacturers very rarely offer any extended warranty for free, in fact it's usually quite expensive. (looking at HP )
