Re: Just won an auction for a Dell u2713...

    Update:

I was surprised to have the replacement monitor turn up today. Now that's a quick turnaround.

    Now for the bad news.
The replacement monitor has exactly the same issue as the other one; it's just in a different location >:-(
The best I can describe it is it's like a super bright pixel that looks like a bright spot on the monitor. It's easily visible sitting 2ft from the display on any background colour but black.
The replacement also has several dead/black pixels.

    Not happy at all >:-(

Edit: The fault is kind of difficult to capture on camera but here's an image:

It's more apparent in real life.

Re: Just won an auction for a Dell u2713...

This is why i would always wait 6 to 9 months before buying new products so they can sort out the problems.

I would really like one of the Dell u2313 but after issues like this in the past with Dell products i will be waiting or looking at other options. Dell have lost the plot over the last few years due to cost cutting.

Oh I dunno - the 2412 I have is fab and dell have that zero defect 3 year warranty so really it's only going to cost them if they're sending out faulty panels..

Re: Just won an auction for a Dell u2713...

don't get me wrong dangel i would like to get the u2313 but I do not have the time to deal with the process of sending it back checking out the replacement than if that's got problems going through the process again, until you get the quality you expect,. This seems to be more of a problem with suppliers and manufacturers today than it ever use to be.
Its just better to wait for a few months when it comes to new products.

Mate, sounds interesting. Keep us posted.

And FYI all, Aria let you pay a small price to have the monitor checked by them before they send it to guarantee you no dead pixels on delivery. Well worth it IMO.

Re: Just won an auction for a Dell u2713...

    Hi guys,
    Just FYI...
I bought one of these monitors from the same seller on ebay (paid £450)- arrived today by UPS next day.
Have to say 100% satisfied with service and monitor - no dead pixels. I suspect op just had some bad luck although glad to hear they sorted it out for you promptly.
Dont mean to hijack your thread but do you know if I can get 2560x1440 using a hdmi cable?
For now I can only seem to achieve it using supplied DVI.
    Cheers

I have the u2711 and you can onl get the full resolution using dual dvi or display port connection. HDMI doesnt have the bandwidth to display enough pixels iirc

+1. This is why I paid (a little bit) more for a Dell.

The A+ panel, quality build and solid stand are a bonus - but the 3 year/zero pixel guarantee is pretty unique for a £220 24" IPS monitor. There are better gaming monitors, wider gamut screens, and panels with numerous features (that you'll never use), but the U2412M is a fantastic 'compromise' for an affordable all-rounder.

Not to mention the fact it's 1920x1200. Try finding that resolution on another IPS and your options are limited. Try finding it on a standard TN 24" screen and I'm not even sure you can (not for cheaper anyway)

    Quick update.

Dell collected one of the monitors but not the other.

I'm currently on the 3rd monitor.
This one has severe backlight bleeding on the left side.
It also has 3+ pieces of debris under the screen. They look like dead pixels but they're not. Managed to make one move slightly after tapping at it for some time.

This one will be going back to the eBay seller once he organises a courier.

I might check out that monitor checking service that aria offer mentioned by ik9000.

Re: Just won an auction for a Dell u2713...

Having not long ago had a dead pixel I know how much it plays on your mind. Mine was red, and what ever your doing with your screen you are always drawn to that area. I did all the cures I.e, ran a single colour on the screen to coax it, tried pressure on it but to no avail.

^^^ This. I'm amazed you've been so unlucky - really sorry to hear it and it's a good job Dell's support is so good compared to other manus.

I'd be bitterly complaining - often they'll throw you some free stuff as compensation (I got a free printer when I had laptop issues with them).
