Question Optimum size for Dual / Triple Monitor setup.

I'm considering getting a dual / triple monitor set up for my web development work. It would be useful to have the coding in one monitor and the output / debugging on another.

I prefer the idea of three screens, so there is one primary and then the two either side. I've tried dual monitor's before but never been happy with the result - but that has mainly been because they weren't matching monitors and the colours / sizes were different.

I currently have a 24" Benq monitor, but I find that too wide and the space on the sides get's wasted. So i'm thinking about getting smaller monitors - 20 - 22 inch, ideally not widescreen so I don't have to move my neck that much.

Has anyone else managed to setup a system like this? What has been the ideal set up for you?

I use dual 22" 1680x1050s a lot (home and work now) and I tend to use the main one horizontal/landscape and the other vertical/portrait. Although the TFT looks a slightly different colour twisted that way, I use that effectively as two smaller monitors with stuff in windows top and bottom ie 1050 wide and just over 800 high per window. When I set it up in Win7 I moved the screens on the display setup so they were in the right position (in my case the lower edge's of both are flush with each other) so it'#s natural to move the mouse around and find it moving from one to another.

I have tried three several times but I've just not got the desk space.

fyi, the dell 21.5" ultrasharps are about the same height as a 17" 5:4 dell, so you could have one widescreen and a square monitor either side of it... that would be a pretty sweet set-up.

I have never tried to get the colour right as they have never been on the same computer (next to each other on a broadcast control room which has lots of different user stations, thats how i know about the size) however dell has decent options for correcting the colour built in so you should be able too.

Thanks @Zak33 and @Biscuit for the responses.

I think i'm going to peruse ebay for dell ultrasharps - and see what comes up in the 20-21.5" sizes.

I currently have a 24" BenQ (1920x1200) and an ancient 18" Eizo (1280x1024) on 2 single link Jetmaster arms clamped onto the desk.

For everyday usage they are both in landscape mode, but I find myself more and more pivoting the 24" into portrait mode, which thanks to the mount on the arms is quick and easy. I think having the extra vertical space is amazing.

If I wasn't so stingy, I would have 3 x LG IPS234V-PN.AEK next to each other in portrait mode, floating above the desk on Jetmaster arms.

Optimum size for Dual / Triple Monitor setup.

Depending on your budget, I would get 3 21inch monitors each with 1680 x 1050 resolution and mount them to a 3 screen bracket.

Will give you great workspace with good resolutions. Also affordable.

I would post you links to suitable hardware but I am not on my PC just now
