Thinking of getting a Kogan LED TV (1080p) as a monitor

Anyone seen of these in action? The reviews are good as a TV and I don't do anything too intense that needs immense colour accuracy.

    or the 24"

Just thought it would be a good idea as I get a TV out of it too for the bedroom desk

Ive never heard of Kogan so I can't comment on the quality however having a contrast ratio of 700:1 is rather poor. I know there is a lot of hype with contrast ratios and much of it can be ignored however that's still a small number.

Dont let that put you off though, it seems to have above average reviews on a few sites and Kogan even have there own ebay store which is currently selling this TV cheaper (its bidding, finishes today 7/11/12 @9pm)

Thanks, didnt think about contrast ratio. Maybe just a monitor with speakers would be better

I'd get one of these instead but worried about how shocking the speakers would be:

And how dramatic could it be between 700:1 and 1000:1 :-/

    interesting....

You will probably find any Flat Panel monitor/TV will have poor sound. However, it should be usable just dont expect to blow the house down with the incredible bass

1000:1 ANSI Contrast ratio is the norm from my memory. Ignore the whole dynamic ratios they're just a sales gimmick.

I cant explain how much better the 1000:1 is over the 700:1. Would it be possible for you to go and view a Kogan at a store?

Yeah I know built in speakers can be pretty bad but I'll only use it for silly sitcoms and documentaries etc, nothing serious.

Don't think Kogan put their TVs in any shops :-/, which is a shame but it's also their whole business plan

Re: Thinking of getting a Kogan LED TV (1080p) as a monitor

For your use the speakers should be more then acceptable. The speakers in my Sammy 40" do me fine for watching TV series on my computer, its only when I try and listen to bassy music that it cracks/pops/distorts.

When I want to listen to music I just change the default device in control panel from HDMI TV to my sound card and everything is good.

Personally I would just buy 22/23/24" monitor with built in speakers and stream TV, if you have Sky/Digi box you could always plug that in when not using the computer and watch normal TV.
