As the title says, I'm having problems working out how best to connect the new monitor and PC I've just bought:
The monitor only has HDMI and D-sub inputs.
The gfx card has DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and DP outputs.
Obviously, I'm looking at using the monitor's HDMI input, but I'm left wondering which is the best output to use. HDMI is going to be the most straightforward option, but will there be benefits to using any of the others?
HDMI is audio and video (so you can use your monitors on board speakers if it has them without the need to wire it up from a sound card).
DVI is video only.
Both are digital signals so they give the best video quality.
D-Sub is VGA, an old analogue signal standard, you can't use this on a digital only monitor.
HDMI>DVI>VGA

Thanks for clarifying that. Don't worry, had no intention of using D-sub, well, other than as a stop-gap measure as the monitor came with a D-sub cable and a D-sub/DVI adaptor, until I can go grab another cable.
I'd just been wondering if, by using DVI, it would be better just supplying the video signal with no audio signal to process. When it comes to HDMI there's the thought of it being just a "TV" cable, so I wasn't sure how well it stacked up against dedicated PC DVI.
Well no difference really. You can actually disable carrying audio over the HDMI medium if you wish.
Quality wise, about the same, just HDMI can carry audio :D
Quality-wise they are (or at least should be) absolutely identical, actually :D
The signaling specification is identical between HDMI and DVI, it's just the shape of the connector (and the additional audio signals in HDMI) that changes. So unless the card vendor or monitor vendor have messed up the implementation you shouldn't see any difference between HDMI and DVI. If your graphics card has native HDMI and your monitor has native HDMI, go for the simplest option and use a HDMI cable :)
