Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
The Qnix QX2710 is getting a lot of attention on the interwebs currently. :secret:
Anyone have a yen (won) for trying one out?
For the price I paid for my Yamasaki Catleap 2B you could get 2 of these (with the usual caveats: quality, warranty, shipping, taxes etc etc)... :naughty:
Edit: Ebay link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Glossy-QNIX-...item4ac30bd405
Hope that's allowed btw :undecided I'm not the seller or affiliated in any way.
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
Really, want a 2560x1440 monitor, have just got a second hand 7970 so thinking I need something more to use it with :) Lots of reading needed...
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
I don't think I'd be paying for any of these when they're effectively seconds. I don't fancy paying unless there's a solid pixel guarantee, and that's pretty unlikely on any of the cheap models... problem is, pricing is so stable that might mean I never get round to a 2560*1440 upgrade.
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
Nah, they're not seconds. A lot of people can't afford A+ panels just like they can't afford Mercs, doesn't mean lower down the chain you can't find decent value new products (with caveats of course): you're taking a chance with blacklight bleed and stuck pixels (my Catleap has one) as well as inferior build quality, and it would be a pain to RMA to S. Korea
However, these are half the price of Catleap 2Bs so at least it's not so much of a risk.
Lots of buyer's stories (good & bad) here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1374065/k...sung-pls-panel
Unified thread there: http://www.overclock.net/t/1384767/t...s-monitor-club
120hz.net have done some testing (despite this model undermining the Catleaps they sell): http://120hz.net/showthread.php?1880...rclock-Testing
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
Just in case anyone's interested, received my Qnix today, still needs comprehensive testing but so far noticed no dead or stuck pixels, overclocks to 120hz (others have reported higher) but much darker at that level. Build quality adequate, as is stand (better than Catleap's). Noticeable backlight bleed at the bottom, may be fixable according to forum posts on Overclock.net as it might just be the bezel (which has a lot of give, almost as if it was expecting a glass screen to be placed there tho I'm not aware of any hardfronted versions).
Mine is a glossy and therefore very reflective (tho not an issue for me).
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
I'd take my chances and stick to a UK buyer, too many risks, customs charges etc
I paid £360 for my U27113HM from Dell with a 3 year perfect pixel guarantee, when you factor in any import charges the benefit of these cheap ones has gone almost immediately from shopping around properly
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
For £196 all told (no customs charge), it was very much worth it I'd say :)
And running @ 120hz (as no Dell has ever done)...
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
Here is a review (of a different model Korean monitor) from last year:http://techreport.com/review/23291/t...a-are-for-real
I wouldn't recommend anyone except enthusiasts to go for something like these of course, caveat emptor :surprised:
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
Well FedEx have posted me the handling & VAT bill and it comes to £48.81, making a grand total of around £245 all told. Customs, handling & VAT seem to be a bit of a lottery, one UK-er got a £13 bill another an £80+ one  (still haven't managed to work out why).
Those Ebay sellers with 'free delivery' usually choose the courier themselves and it really depends on who you get that determines the final bill. FedEx are scrupulous, others apparently less so...
Some sellers will mark as 'gift' and/or a lower value, others (in my case, Dream-seller) won't.
Our American cousins fare better as usual, with the S.K-U.S FTA and lower (if any) taxes.
Well monitor has been running 120hz for several weeks now, no issues to report so far. May unloosen the screws on bezel as it might relieve the slight backlight bleed at the bottom (screen is superb, case construction & stand are, as with the Catleap, mediocre at best :().
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
Hey Pleiades. How long was your shipping? I'm so tempted to buy one.

Hi jigger, tbh I can't remember, I know it was amazingly quick once the order was shipped but in my case the actual processing took several days. It's a bit hit and miss rly. Spent longer in local depot than anything else IIRC. Sorry can't b more specific lol ;)
Re: Another overclocking contender from S. Korea
I have an X-Star - got pixel perfect from green-sum for £220.50 - but customs handed me a £50 bill on top :( This was VAT+Handling though, as EU has a free trade agreement with SK.
It\'s still worth every penny - got it running 120Hz now and have calibrated the colours to near perfection :D My old 1080p feels really small now.
No bad pixels, minimal BLB, but the stand is crappy and the panel moves a bit inside the casing.
