There is demand, but not a huge one. For the average person, 1080p vs 1440p is negligible, especially when 1080p has such sway in the TV/film sector.

In that case, why would you spend £400 rather than £150? They'll always be niche, and therefore it's pretty unlikely that the prices will drop dramatically any time soon.

I hear they are based on the Samsung PLS panels. I have a Samsung S27B970D. If they are anything like these panels definitely worth the purchase.

More or less exclusively for gaming and I would be impressed if anyone noticed any ghosting with it.

tftcentral gaming section on the panel: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713hm.htm

The responsiveness of the U2713HM was very good and we were pleased by what we saw. The screen showed very low levels of motion blur and only some very slight overshoot from the overdrive impulse being applied. It was a little ahead of the other 27" IPS panels we have tested and showed obvious advantages over some of the AMVA offerings in this size. Dell had made some improvements to the overdrive control as well since the U2312HM, U2412M and U2711 models and that was positive news. The screen should be perfectly capable of handling fast paced games, although you may want to consider the type of graphics card required to run games with high settings at such a high resolution.
My main thing is where as I can't see any ghosting on the panel at 8ms response time (maybe someone can, I can't and thats all I care about) I CAN see the colour and quality difference of an IPS vs TN panel and I do love my IPS panels

Thanks for that mate, have you noticed any light bleeding especially in a darken room with a dark screen?

I have a small amount of bleed on the bottom left of my screen that I only ever notice at above 90% brightness in a dark room on a black screen - Some people can't stand any bleed but alas that is the downside to the IPS panels

Red face Re: Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

Just bought the matte, pixel perfect , multi-input QX2710 from Accessorieswhole on ebay .. £280, delivered in 4 days and luckily no VAT was charged by the nice customs people at Stansted. I am just amazed by the quality of the unit and the speed of delivery. The various S. Korean sellers are fairly close in price so I just went the one with a high number of positive reviews. Could have gone with just a DVI input model to save more money I guess but wanted the flexibility.

BF4 is now even prettier ... until it crashes (no change there then).

I have taken the plunge and ordered a Crossover 27QW which is an LG AH-IPS panel.

Costs so far £210 for monitor and £17.37 to DHL for customs clearance, its currently in germany so should be with me soon enough.

    Re: Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

My bro just bought the newest Qnix 27" PLS matte panel on eBay. Fair to say it is of unbelievable quality for less than 200 quid! Not a dead or stuck pixel in sight either. Very little backlight bleed on bottom left corner, I guess due to cheap LEDs ? The bezel is a bit loose and the stand is wobbly. But there are modding guides avaible on that OCN thread, looks easy enough. And you can always use a VESA mount. I'm thinking about getting one soon too.

I forgot to mention that most overclock to around 100Hz refresh rate which he has. Makes it even better value!

My QX2710 does 120Hz quite happily set within the nvidia control panel ... if only my GTX670 would now grow a pair so to speak.

What's it like trying to return these monitors if I have problems with dead pixels?

They're supposed to have bad pixels, they're not A grade panels. Most of the shops I've seen suggest that you need a significant number of them to represent a fault.

Maybe the situation has changed since you looked.

At least on ebay for the bigger sellers, a bad screen is one classed as having >5 pixel faults and can be returned. Some vendors I notice break the screen down into sectors and specify a bad screen is one with more than 1 dead pixel in the centre of the screen.

However one can purchase a "pixel perfect" model that have zero dead pixels at additional cost which is what I did.

I suspect that supplier rating on ebay is more critical than quibbling with a customer over whether the screen has 5 or 6 faulty pixels. I certainly picked my supplier based on the number and percentage of positive reviews.

If you're sitting on the fence, I'd say go with your head and buy local/expensive just for the peace of mind...
Have there been issues with stuck/dead pixels? I can imagine it would be a nightmare trying to return or replace it
