Need some advice with picking an IPS monitor

I have a budget of £150 but would like to spend around £100 if possible. Dell seems to be the most suggested out of all the manufacturers and even though they are quite pricey, the 23” AH-IPS panels seem to be fairly cheap compared to other brands.
Shopping on Amazon or Scan and finding all the information on each and every monitor between my price range is extremely frustrating as although I know IPS is better, sometimes there is no mention of the panel type and ‘LED’ is the name given.
The response time is also important but it’s hard to get correct information as not all the cheap monitors that I see are reviewed, and from what I’ve read looking at Grey to grey response times are not realistic and tend to be misleading.

I’d really like some help as the more I look into it the more I keep getting lost in all the information and choice. Thanks.

Dell are indeed good quality panels for the most part. certainly their pixel-perfect warranty is extremely good.
Probably the best website for reviews of monitors is TFT Central. He/she uses Pixerpan to really draw out any problems with a panel.
If it were me I'd be looking at the 2312hm
    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm

"I have provided a comparison of the U2312HM first of all above against 3 other screens we have tested which use IPS panel technology and W-LED backlighting. The U2312HM shows less motion blur in moving images than the LG IPS231P despite that screens rather bold spec of 5ms G2G. In fact we had already concluded from our review that the IPS231P performed much like the NEC EA232WMi which has a 14ms response time and does not use RTC technology. This goes to show that you can't always trust a reported spec. The U2312HM shows a similar low level of motion blur to the 5ms G2G rated Asus ML239H, but does have a more noticeable overshoot and dark trail unfortunately."
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Dell S2340L would that be any better? it's cheaper but the same size.

Re: Need some advice with picking an IPS monitor

The S rage is a cheaper monitor and hasn't been tested that I can find.
This discussion seems to agree that if you can strectch the extra £5 then the 2312m is the better monitor. If you really can't then the S appears to be accepteable.
    http://www.overclock.net/t/1339096/w...-vs-u2312hm/10

    The 2312hm is only £155 @ Amazon

Even TFT central finds it hard to seperate them.

    Dell S2340L

    23" 7ms G2G LG.Display AH-IPS panel with W-LED backlight
Glossy screen coating but unlike 24 - 27" models, no protective glass front
Good all-round performance from IPS panel technology
Limited ergonomic adjustments from stand with only tilt

    Dell U2312HM

    23" 8ms G2G LG.Display e-IPS panel (LM230WF3-SLD1) with W-LED backlighting
Functionality of tilt / height / rotate / pivot adjustments offering good ergonomics
Good all round performance thanks to e-IPS panel
Good responsiveness thanks to the use of overdrive. Superior to some similar models without overdrive technologies
Wide range of connectivity and ergonomic options
Mediocre black depth and contrast ratio by modern standards

    Or possibly Atari.

Re: Need some advice with picking an IPS monitor

If all the brands use the same panel type doesn't that mean they are all the same? so LG, asus, AOC, dell all using the same technology?

Re: Need some advice with picking an IPS monitor

No, they don't. It's true that there are only a few manufacturers, but the implementation of the control circuitry will lead to large differences.
Really TFT central is the place to look. If you live in the Midlands, then I'd recommend a visit to Scan or Overclockers and see them in the flesh. Even some PCW stores have some on display that can be demonstrated.

Would you say that the older e-IPS Dell ultrasharp is worth spending more than for the newer Dell S series AH-IPS?

I have the older one, the 234v. The stand is awful and don't trust people who say the refresh rate is great. The colours are excellent though and its £90 pounds. I got mine for £120 about 6 months ago. I miss my CRT tbh; I think I'm one of these people who notices lag and low FPS.

Re: Need some advice with picking an IPS monitor

Depends on what price you can get them for, and what's most important to you.
I choose Dells for the warranty and the m for the low input lag and quality stand. I don't think you'd be at all disappointed with the S. It looks like they've chopped the stand and peripherals to get that price.
It's a real shame I can't find any reviews of one though

Are you gaming ? If so I'd consider a TN panel below £150. Like the Asus VN247H

Re: Need some advice with picking an IPS monitor

Yes i was going to be gaming, but i was told to stay away from TN panels unless i was going to get a 120mhtz model

Also looking more into that S series Dell, seems people dislike the glossy coating and it has ghosting issues.

Between dell and going for something cheaper like LG. I'm still unsure what to buy.

This appeared in an email from HUKD today. Might be worth considering at the price.

Was going to buy that from argos, but it's out of stock.
Amazon is selling it for the same price, but they are also out of stock.
