    Laptop screen problem

    Hi.
My laptop has recently developed horizontal scan lines, across it, which change and occasionally stop when I move the screen or tap it. I have used a vga cable on a tv to test if it the video card and there isn't a problem. So based on this I assumed it was a loose connection. (probably for 4years of it being picked up be the screen)
I have dismantled only the screen to push and prod the various connection in the back, i.e the ribbon cable, and the cables that go into the inverter. Nothing seems to have helped. Aside from checking the other end of the ribbon inside the laptop (since it means i have to dismantle the whole thing) I don't know what is causing it.
    It is an Asus z97v.

There is a youtube video of the problem which shows it perfectly here, youtube.com/watch?v=AXoU9vXlsso (i can't post videos yet)
I wondered if anyone had come across a similar problem and could give me a better idea of what is causing it?

    Thankyou for your help.

Sounds like a classic cable break. The wires on the ribbons are very fine and they are connecting / disconnecting as you move the lid.

I'd swap the ribbon cable out as my first port of call.

Are these a generic thing, or will i be hunting for a 4year old ribbon?

Rarely generic I'm afraid - to the Ebay
You can actually find a fair bit of stuff on there like this for cheap. Take a picture of yours for reference later on, as often they can be the same across that model/ranges.

Hmmm, tempting. Will have to discuss with the better half - she might be a bit miffed if I talked her into buying me a new laptop then fixed the old one Plenty of ebay sellers stock the right cable...
