    Monitor choice 24" 1200p IPS vs 120Hz 1080p TN

I was wondering which is going to be better as my next monitor. Currently I use my desktop for web surfing a bit of work and gaming.

I currently use 24" Dell 2407 its getting old (5 years) but still works fine but I was wondering if it was time to change and weather 120Hz in noticeable and weather drop in resolution would be worth it.

I'm willing to spend money on a quality monitor as I don't upgrade very often and displays are the most important bit in my thinking.

    Thanks for any advice.

If it works fine I would not bother. The Dell 2407 was a decent monitor when it was released.

BTW,what CPU you have?? Is it a Core i5 750??

I'm using a 2405 as one of the two screens here. Still a great monitor as it was very high quality when released

Having said that we have a few 120Hz screens at work and I'll be upgrading when I have a bit more cash. The extra smoothness is really noticeable. Not just talking about games either, even just moving stuff around in Windows is nicer, although I wouldn't upgrade just for that

Yeah I've never seen one in action but read they are much smoother may I could justify a second screen!

I have a samsung 27a950 120hz Monitor and tbh i could't go back to a 60hz after this.....it is just so much smoother than a 60hz, one of the best upgrades ive ever done.

As you are used to the 16:10 form factor in your Dell 2407 that may be something to think about when upgrading. If you wanted to stay at 1200p I would recommend the HP Z24i or the Asus PB248Q.

Is it that good like? I just can't see how it makes that much difference over a higher resolution panel.

Not really doubting you btw, just can't get my head round it thats all

120hz is just so much smoother than 60hz......just waiting for my new monitor to arrive today, im getting one of those Korean 27" 2560x1440 that are overclockable to 120hz.....best of both worlds.
