    Optimum Screen Size?

Does anyone think there is an "optimum" screen size for PC gaming? I currently use the screen on my laptop (19") and a 27" TV screen but the TV just seems far too big for gaming.

Also, could anyone recommend any good HD monitors? Looking to spend maybe £120 at the most if I can help it (although could be a bit flexible). Thanks

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

It depends what system you have, I find my 23" 1080p screen about right at that res, any bigger and you start needing 1440 which is significantly more taxing graphics wise.

Surround (3*1080p/1440p screens) is incredible, but needs alot of desk space and GPU grunt.

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

I'm currently using a 27inch Dell Ultrasharp and before that was on a 24inch Dell Ultrasharp. At first I thought the 27 was just a tad too big (but its so lovely) but now I love having the extra workspace. Its not the same as having a TV on the desk, your 27inch TV is still going to be running at 1080 so everything is much more in your face.

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

If you've got a single screen then 27" is great. I find my single 27" Dell (2560 x 1440) at home better than 2 x 22" 1080p + 19" 1024x1280 (rotated) at work for doing work as well as for play.

24" may be the sweet spot, but I'd be tempted to have a second screen for productivity if I only had a 24" screen.

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

In terms of system, I'm on w7 64 bit and use games like Planetside 2, Skyrim and so on. PS2 is the most graphics intensive it gets at the moment, and I don't have the desk space for 3 screens sadly, but 2 will be optimal.

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

Only just noticed the budget. For 120 notes you are defiantly looking at the 23-24inch mark, 27" jumps in price.

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

Depends on the usage. I like my 22" panels a lot, but would jump at the chance of a cheap, high-res 27"/30". I can't justify the expense right now, so I've stuck with them.

As for suggestions on monitors, have a look at this very similar thread: http://forums.hexus.net/displays-mon...get-110-a.html

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

I have an HP 21" at 1440x900, which is pretty decent. However I am looking at either a 24" or 27" setup, likely the latter. There is a good reason for this...

I have a corner desk, with the monitor sat on an arm. When I want to laze on the sofa and watch movies, the monitor gets repositioned over more centrally. For that, 21" is a bit small, hence wanting a 27". The beauty of the arm is that you can move it further back from your eyes if you need to.

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

Brilliant, thanks. It's mainly going to be used for gaming now (that's what my new build is aimed at any way!) but there would be a fair bit of TV streaming as well. Got a TV that does that well enough already so this is mainly for the gaming side of things really. I'll have a glance at ebuyer as well - they get the occasional good deal on monitors apparently

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

Don't scrimp on a monitor as it is the main interaction you will have with your PC. Yes you can get a half way decent manito for £150 but think about doubling that and maybe opting for a 29" ultra widescreen. I love mine great for gaming.

    Re: Optimum Screen Size?

Depends on the resolution you plan on using I say on 1080p up to 23" any higher I say get 1600p.
It also depends on how close you are to your monitor if your up close then up to 27" is alright but anymore imo but if your far away say a few feet then I think you need atleast a 30".

I was considering 27" screen in 1080p. Is this really bad idea? It would be mainly for games.

24" is the biggest I'd consider for 1080p, for 27" look at 1440p instead.

I went for a 24" BenQ 1080p screen in the end. Works a charm and because it's HDMI connection it also plays sounds through the screen as well Cheers for the help all!
