Red face Looking for a Height adjustable monitor

Chaps, at the moment, I have a 17" Samsung Syncmaster 740B monitor.
Now, I am considering buying a new monitor which is
    - Widescreen ( Not sure of advantages )
    - Same size or a bit bigger .. 19" ?
    - LED
    - Slim
    - Has DVI or HDMI output
    - Has adjustable height where you can move the monitor up or down and leave it at that point rather than a monitor with two height settings - plug in clip to fix it to the table or remove the clip and it TWANGs to max height

Re: Looking for a Height adjustable monitor

I'm still on a old 21" 4:3 monitor and if I were to change to a widescreeen I would not want to loose any vertical screen space.

    So your 4:3 17" screen has a vertical height of 259mm (17" : 5 * 3 = 10.2"), and for a 16:9 widescreen that means you need at least 21" screen (465mm wide by 262mm high).

Luckily, 21" screens are about the minimum you can get these days. Whereas my old NEC 21" PV screen has a vertical height of 326mm which means I would need at least a 26" widescreen which aren't cheap so I will stick with this monitor a while longer (the power consumption of my NEC 2170NX is ~70W though which is very poor as a 42" LED backlit TV uses around that).

Height adjustability: well my monitor's stand is height adjustable but despite NEC monitors being very pricey if bought new, the mechanism is rather poor. Maybe you are better off getting a monitor with a VESA mount and buying a decent third-party stand instead.

Oh, and your requirements don't mention which panel type you want; unless you need 120Hz or 3D I would avoid TN panels.

+1 IPS panels give much richer colours and better viewing angles. I find the Dell U and P series offer good height, tilt, pivot, swivel stands. Might not hit your budget though you could try 2nd hand?

Thanks kompukare, panel... erm.. haven't thought about it. Definitely don't need 120Hz or 3D.
The most annoying bit is that height adjustable monitors are not widely available.

And ones that are are expensive. You can get good IPS panels for 120gbp, but they won't be high adjustable.
