NRGIT have a dell 4K IPS monitor for circa £500 at the moment:

Ridiculous price for a good monitor. Shame it's only 24 Inches - you'll struggle to use that without scaling!

You can tell it's of IPS technology (or something similar) when looking at the specs:

Thanks, sometimes I just need these things to be put in black and white before I'll take the information at face value.

178 degree viewing angles suggests IPS (however some companies are cheeky and say you can get the same viewing angles with VA) but the 5ms GtG response time paired with the 178 degree is pretty much guaranteed IPS or equivalent.

I was surfing today and found a monitor with these specs:

    Key Features

    Screen Size: 27"W
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Resolution (max.): 2560x1440
    Pixel Pitch (mm): 0.2331
    Brightness (typ.): 350 cd/m2
    Contrast (typ.): 1000:1
    Viewing Angle: 178/178 degrees (horizontal/vertical)
    Response Time: 12ms, 4ms (GtG)
    Display Colors: 1.07 Billion
    Color Gamut: 100% sRGB
But this is not an IPS screen as we might know one, it uses a new AHVA panel made by AUO, here's a link and here's another.

AHVA - Despite having VA in the acronym, Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle panel technology from AUO is simply another proprietary panel type (similar to Samsung PLS) with an IPS foundation to achieve wide viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. AHVA panels are not actually using vertical alignment, so they do not exhibit color or gamma shifts commonly found from that panel type.
    Source.
Does that mean that AHVA screens are a development of IPS screens?

Does anyone have any more information on them?

Re: 4K Monitor Comparison - which is the best 4K monitor?

I've seen that when stating AHVA(+) they say in the description: AHVA (with IPS technology).

I think it's a variant or something similar. I believe the manufacturer you stated is a sub company of BenQ - not 100% on this as I think it was on hexus. It's similar though, but offers slightly quicker response times and can offer up to 120 or 144 Hz (can't remember). Same story with PLS - it's similar technology. I'd be asking someone who's a lot more knowledgeable - I'm just recalling recent information I've seen and have most likely missed our a fair bit.

Edit: hadn't read the information you quoted. In that case, it must be.

I posted my response above and then spotted this thread, as my question doesn't relate to 4k monitors directly I think it would be better use the linked thread to continue with AHVA discussions.

Re: 4K Monitor Comparison - which is the best 4K monitor?

I did see - when I'm on my computer I'll copy my post over. However it's still relevant to 4K as I believe manufacturing cost is less than IPS which means better panels for 4K that won't cost as much as IPS. Been a bit confused recently when looking for monitors because they state 4ms response GtG but also they're IPS. I've never seen that - more likely that they're VA.
