Help to choose 27" IPS Monitor for photo editing and gaming.
Hi there.
I've decided to get new 27 inch IPS monitor.
It'll be used for photo editing (25%), gaming (30%) and daily use (45%).
As I am building new PC as well, I don't want to spend too much money on monitor.
So far I shortlisted:
Asus VX279Q
LG IPS277L-BN
LG 27EA33V
Dell P2714H Professional
iiyama XUB2790
All above cost less than 250 pounds and that's my limit I want to spend.
I realize that for this this money I won't get 2560 x 1440 resolution.
Is 1920 x 1080 resolution enought for 27" screen?
I am using NEC MultiSync 20WGX² PRO at 1680 x 1050 which is a S-IPS 7 year old screen. Still going strong. I am actually going to keep it.
Any ideas which directions should I go?
Regards.

Why do you want a 27" monitor if you're only going to run it at 1080p?
(I would suggest the Dell 2212HM, mainly because I own two and they're great)
Re: Help to choose 27" IPS Monitor for photo editing and gaming.
I agree with Jim, if you aren't going to spend out and go for the 2560x1440p 27inch (Dell U2713HM for example) I would just go for a U2414H which will give you a much better quality monitor for sub £200.

OK, slight change of plans.
I just won on eBay little used DGM IPS-2701 WPH (2560 x 1440) monitor for £210. Still within my budget.
I would prefer some better know brand like LG or Asus, but well.. we'll see.
I didn't think I am going to win it.
If I don't like it, I will sell it. I shouldn't loose any money on it, I think :)
Re: Help to choose 27" IPS Monitor for photo editing and gaming.
The DGM IPS-2701 has been getting some good reviews and is a very popular choice with a large number of people posting on various forums because it can be overclocked and is fairly easy to mod.

Thanks KeyboardDemon.
I didn't know you can over clock monitor. Turns out, yes you can. Apparently not every version of DGM can over clock.
how can you mod a monitor?
Do you mean changing the stand, which again apparently is a little wobly?
Re: Help to choose 27" IPS Monitor for photo editing and gaming.
Why not try get the Dell u2913wm it's 329 on Amazon
Re: Help to choose 27" IPS Monitor for photo editing and gaming.
I don't recall the exact details, it's been a long time since I stopped considering the DGM monitors as an option myself, but I do recall reading about people increasing the refresh speeds (overclocking) and modding the stands as the original stands are a little wobbly.

As for brands I did like LG recently.
DGM monitor I received had faulty power supply, so went back to the seller.
Still in the hunt for monitor.
What do you guys think about 29 inch super wide monitors?

I was considering one before I got the Dell U2713HM, the LG is currently £250 on limited pre-order with OcUK http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18599994

Still not sure how the gaming would look like on that wide screen comparing to the standard 27 screen.

It's the business edition of this http://www.anandtech.com/show/6741/l...review-rev-125 with a USB3 hub and a height adjustable stand.

I'll probably regret this later, but I've ordered it.
Hope that the shock from switching from 20" 16:10 screen to 29" 21:9 screen won't last long :)
