    Dell U2414H Should I or shouldn't I? + Soundbar question.

    Hi guys,

First off let me explain, I've had a U2311H for a few years now so I have no doubts about the U2414H being a great monitor. I'm just wondering if you'd recommend anything else for my situation that I should consider.

I've always used my U2311H for playing my PS3 on as I much prefer the picture over my TV. The problem is I want to get myself a PS4 eventually but as the PS4 only outputs sound through HDMI, the U2311H wont be viable without something to split the audio out of the HDMI signal to run to my speakers. I don't mind going for the new monitor route as it'll be replacing an old 19" Hanns G anyway. Also, I used to take my monitor and a set of speakers with me to a friends house a lot when we used to play PS3 and adding a splitter into the mix too just sounds like hassle I'd rather avoid.

Although the U2414H does solve this I'm also intrigued about maybe going for something of equal quality that's slightly bigger and maybe higher resolution. Any stand out suggestions I should be considering or think I should just save some money and stick to the U2414H knowing it'll be great?

    The soundbar questions:

I noticed that the AC511 soundbar for the U2414H isn't that expensive and could save me even more hassle with not needing more speakers.
Does anyone have any experience with it? How good does it sound?
Also, I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. The details say it's USB powered but don't say if the usb also carries the audio? So for example if I plug a PS4 into the monitor's HDMI, will the audio go to the soundbar via the USB socket on the monitor that is powering it, or will I have to run a cable from the audio out of the monitor to the audio in of the soundbar on it's side?

    Cheers

I think you got a bit confused (or maybe me) but I don't think the monitor will split the audio from HDMI to the Audio Line Out or the USB.

From what I can gather it seems that the audio capabilities of the monitor derive directly from connecting the USB to a computer? Maybe you can get away with connecting the USB to the PS4?

The sound from the previous sound bar was pretty dire. Could have improved a lot with this new one though.

    EDIT:

Maybe just keep your current monitor and get an audio splitter for the PS4 e.g.

    USB to 3.5mm http://www.amazon.co.uk/iLuv-ICB758-...ords=usb+audio

    or

    Toslink to 3.5mm http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...=1&s=computers

Hi, Did you get the U2414H in the end? I have been looking at this monitor which i'll be using for my PC via DP and Xbox one via HDMI, so kinda in the same situation you was in. As far as I know, the Dell monitor doenst have sound output, so I'd have to direct sound using TOSlink.

What I want to know is, how have you found the monitor for use with console? - If you did buy this monitor, and if you didnt, what other monitors did you look at...
