    Choosing a second monitor?

I currently have an ASUS 27" MX279H which I originally purchased solely for the fact that It's an IPS panel, I didn't do my research and ended up with an IPS panel for gaming which isn't exactly ideal. A year down the line and I'm looking to begin streaming via Twitch and would like to add a second monitor to my setup, however I'm unsure what would be the best move for me.

I'll be using the new monitor for gaming mostly, on PC & consoles (although I know 144hz won't make a difference to the consoles).. I know the TN panel colors will be a lot darker and more noticeable when seated next to an IPS panel but as the IPS panel will remain on the desktop 99% of the time this doesn't bother me.

Can anyone offer me some advice? I know there Gsync and FreeSync to think of etc and If this information helps, I'll also be upgrading to a GTX 970 in the coming months.

    Re: Choosing a second monitor?

If you can afford a gsync monitor and the 970 then I think you sould go for that as if the streaming affects your frame rate it should eliminate any tearing etc.

    Re: Choosing a second monitor?

I think that's gsync or wait from my perspective too, depending on what you may come across,,

Sw1ftY, may I ask, what made you sure that IPS was bad for gaming? I'm using a vp171s now and it's nice though I really like my catleap 60hz ips at home. It's not until now really that I've thought carefully about how that may not be a gaming monitor. Maybe you could PM me if you didn't wish to derail the thread. The catleap (or at least some of them!) are quite responsive I did read somewhere.

    sorry, back on topic >>>>>

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)

    Re: Choosing a second monitor?

Does the Gsync really offer a substantial enough improvement when gaming to justify the high premium?

    Re: Choosing a second monitor?

I think going for GSync is the way to go as well
