Seen a few of these IPS displays at great prices on ebay. Any had any experience of any of the cheapy brands, particularly at x 1600 rather than the more mainstream x 1440?
Anyone know of a place that does guaranteed no dead pixel policy? I'd pay extra.

A lot of them on the Bay and the sellers tend to get pretty good reviews and claim full warranty services... I've also been tempted as they would make great work monitors but its all a little bit too risky for £250+
Im holding out for those 34" 1440p Ultrawide badboys to drop a bit.

Indeed it does! Unfortunately, for reasons I cannot fathom, some models don't have a vesa mount, which is essential for me, especially when the stand doesn't have height adjustment.
Curious why you need something that WIDE? Personally, i want more height....
In a word - Gaming.
In my opinion a 2560x1440 monitor is not letting me see any more of the game play area than I can see at 1920x1080, while a 3440x1440 has loads of extra space at the side, so for FPS action games I will see a lot more of the play area and get a better idea of when someone is trying to approach me from a side where I would normally be blind, so I'll be able to see what killed me that way. lol. Or I can run 2 or maybe three browser windows side by side and see more of the work I am doing with photoshop or spreadsheets etc...
Wow, those 3440x1440 ultrawide monitors look beautiful. The price on them though...
Not going off topic though, I did read about a few people buying the 30" 1600p monitors a long time back and it seemed to be mostly fine. As it was a while back I don't actually remember where I saw it but I'm guessing either on [H] or on overclock.net

anyone got a source for the non lg ultrawides? The LG one looks pretty epic, and I could just about stretch to it, but googling it looks like there might not be a lot to call between the two, so would rather pocket the change.

As KBD says, its best for gaming, i would also add movie watching into the mix. Its awesome for films that are in cinema aspect.
For productivity the 1080p 21:9 is a little bit awkward to use, its better than a regular 1080p monitor but it just needs a squidge more verticle res to be perfect, which is obviously why the 1400p ones are so appealing.
The reason i would pick a 1440p ultra wide over a 1600p 16:10, is because you can comfortably have two applications/windows next to each other on the same screen without anything feeling squashed.
It very much depends on the applications you are using and what you are using it for... but i feel we are drifting off topic!
I think LG are the only one with a 1440p one at present, but the 1080p ones are done by loads of companies. Im currenly using a Dell and I love it!
Reviving old thread. Well I finally bought it. The First F301GD Live direct from S. Korea. Including getting stung for import taxes, just over £300 delivered by 3 day courier(UPS), for a lovely 30 inch monitor. Not the prettiest bezel or most full featured, but it isn't glossy (good), no dead pixels, very pleasant to look at / use, and has insanely good viewing angles. Very, very basic controls (no OSD) so mostly have to adjust using Nvidia tools or guess what buttons on base do (not a lot), but not an issue for me.
Movies look superb compared to my old Samsung T240. Have to investigate MPC-HC upscaling options....
Downsides. Stand is pretty bad / basic / flimsy and non-adjustable - not standard ISO either as far as I can see. Not a biggie for me but could put some off. Only minor niggle is a slight hum coming from external power brick sometimes, but relocating it as far away as poss from me has made barely noticable, and I'm fussy / running a silent rig.
Overall, happy bunny. For the money, delighted.

I actually bought an old Dell 3007 for under £200 of ebay for my office. Starting to make UIs for 'retina' type resolutions these days so needed something a bit more spacious!
