I have to agree with this, it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade if you are only gaining more pixels across, you need to gain some vertical estate too so going for a 3440x1440 21:9 screen would be better but there are only three LG models that do this as far as I'm aware.

Thanks. Works well with watching films while browsing the net etc.

I dont tend to game over all three although I have tried once or twice. I'm not playing AAA games to be honest, mainly world of tanks and the like. I also tend to game on the centre screen with TS on the right screen and music (mixradio/itunes/vlc) on the left. Still getting around 80fps on that before I am hitting CPU limits more than the card. I have space for a second 290x in the case if a new game ever requires it.
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
I am really pulled towards the ultrawide. Been looking at some YouTube videos and impressed with the look of some games being played on them. OK not all things will be ultra wide but in can still do 2 things on it like surf and watch videos like I do with my 2 monitors just now.
I will not have all the screen real estate I have just now, but willing sacrifice some for the single screen.
I might save up and get a good quality screen and not a cheap one.
A little concerned how my 7850 will cope at that resolution though. No more high quality graphics for me.
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
Some good news.
Mrs Burnout has saved up £200 for my crimbo so i might end up getting one of there as it has become more affordable. Only need another £300

Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
You can probably get that background on other monitors too you know :P
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
I was just wondering something with these ultra wide screens. If a game didn't properly support the resolution/ratio, couldn't you just run it at a standard 16:9 resolution and have a load of blank pixels outside that res? I suppose that would depend on the monitor's/gpu's scaling options, right?
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
Yes, you can still run those games, you just get black borders.
Or stretched 1920x1080:

Yes you can.
This video has examples of running games.

The only game I have had a problem with is Starcraft 2 but that is due to blizzard blocked out larger resolutions so players are limits to the same screen estate for competition reasons. Not something i agree with but what can you do.
Other games such as Ruse, World of Tanks, War Thunder all work fine and the only real item I have had to change is the aspect ratio in World of Tanks due to lack of support for the 21:9 in older versions.
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
Cool :) This thread is making me want one now :P

Indeed.
Obviously this only affects online competitions which are usually smaller events, but then the major events usually have online qualifiers.
Mind you if people want to break the rules they could use xsplit to rearrange the screen to gain an unfair advantage.
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
I considered the Dell 21:9 for a long time, watching the above linked video a loooooot of times. In the end I settled on a the 16:9 27" I have now. Unfortunately, there were no 3440x1440 monitors out. I really liked the aspect ratio but wasn't sure of the support at the time, so decided to move to a 16:9 from a 16:10. Might start to have a look into these again. Can imaging racing and FPS games being epic on these.

Do you think you could do a close up of the screen pixels with your camera for me? I have a catleap, recently saw an Apple 27" display in a shop and it looked a bit sharper, wondering how the Dell might stack up!
aCouple of other things- does the fattened Gamma bother you? I was thinking of getting a high gamma laptop but they seemed to disappear about 2-4 years ago , an d , they fatten the 16.8million odd few colours out into A more spangly 16.8 million colors.
And, finally, I have here a Viewsonic VP171s TFT DVI monitor @ 17" and 1280x1024@75hz, 32 bit color output to a whopping possible 262,144 colors(maybe it's them moving. "16.2M colours (6-bit+2-bit FRC)"). So it looks, erm, "good" for a TFT (cough) but not great on imaging. What it does seem to do is actually respond without too much lag over DVI though, which is nice, and something that in comparison my Catleap 60hz zzx1440 60hz monitor Does Not (tm).
Do you notice extra lag on your IPS 27" if you came from another TFT? Did you ever use a CRT, and if so, are you even _happy with the TFT? :)

That screen looks good. But remember, TFT displays are quite tricky! Try and see it in person if you're about to spend half a thousand british pounds sterling on a colourful light based desk anomoly. Does it do the fancy PWM avoidance of some of newer viewsonic monitoring, for 'ample?
__ I'm as tempted as you are (well, ok, not with this vp171s!)) they're bound to be good, but how do they even do contrast? You know, they might really be quite different or subjective. See one if you can? Retina display in an apple shop might change your mind too.?
EDit: 34" diagonal and 1080 vertical pixels? That's not good. You did notice that right? My tablet has 1080 pixels along 9 inches of diagonal display.
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
I would really like to see one in person before I buy but I have no idea where I would go. I don't think curry's have them in stock.
Edit.
Curry's do stock this

Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
I;ve just got one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CrossOver-...item33934fc308
Same IPS panel as the rest, but much cheaper. It only has dual link dvi input, but that shouldn't be an issue unless you intend to drive from a laptop.
TBH if you're doing productivity stuff, the 1440 ones are probably better, but for gaming this is stonking. Took about 5 days in the post, and managed to miss the customs fees, but even if you get stung it'd only work out about £200.
Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor
i have the LG 29" which i got last week and very nice it is too. narrower but colours are lovely.
