    Considering Ultrawide Monitor

    Peeps

i am considering ditching my 2 x 22inch monitors and getting an ultrawide 21:9 format screen. Its rather annoying to have 2 screens but i can only play my games on one. I do like the extra screen space having 2 screens but the ultrawide will still give me the ability to have 2 docs open side by side.

Looking at models such as -->

AOC Q2963PM 29" LED IPS VGA DVI HDMI Monitor

    http://www.ebuyer.com/440909-aoc-q29...onitor-q2963pm

and if i can afford it

Asus PB298Q 29" LED DVI HDMI Monitor with Speakers

    http://www.ebuyer.com/545250-asus-pb...peakers-pb298q

Has anyone made the switch to ultrawide and what has the experience been like. is a 29inch screen as big as it looks?
Any advice, pointers ot reccomendations will be appreciated.

    Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor

Well it's obviously quite a bit narrower, but as you say in terms of practicality you can still easily have two docs open side by side.

In terms of non office functionality it depends. Some games will love the 21:9 ratio, others will end up distorted or with borders. Similar issues with videos, etc.

Sometimes it is quite nice to have the clear demarcation of two separate monitors, sometimes the gap is annoying.

What is the primary use of your system?

I use it mainly for gaming, media consumption and browsing. My wife uses it to ponce about on Facebook and other social media nonsense.
My present monitors are 1680 x 1060 so i would like the jump to hire resolution gaming as well ( as long as my card can handle it )

    Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor

That Asus one is awfully expensive, perhaps better to go up to 1440p instead? You gain the resolution jump you want and better compatibility with games and video.

Ooooooh pretty. I've been thinking of upgrading my 27" but I'm scared in case an ultra wide would start to look ridiculous on my tiny desk. 27 is already HUGE.

    A 27" monitor isn't that huge - here's my Dell U2713HM setup:

That's not too bad but my desk is in a tiny corner and it's probably about half that size and my 27" Dell takes up about 80% of it. Will post a pic when I get home

    Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor

I have the Dell as the centre monitor of my setup. Well worth the £300 I spent on it and wouldn't go back at all. I went for the dell due to its 1080 vertical resolution so that it matched up with my other 2 22" monitors.

Do you get reasonable frame rates in games with your 290X? That's a lot of pixels to push around

This is my desk with my my current 27" monitor:

It's a little oversized already for my desk, not sure Ultrawide and 2" extra would help matters, but OMG I really would love one.
