Anyone using a TV as a monitor have recommendation ?

I started using a TV as my primary after my monitor died and I just don't think I can go back - however the TV I'm using is a cheap one and I need an upgrade.

Does anyone else here use a TV as their primary, and have anything especially good I should go for ?

I'm leaning towards a Samsung H6400, it's a good mid to high range, meaning it's got enough processing and bells & whistles, without being overboard (most stuff will be turned off to improve imput lag anyway). But it's hard to research older TVs (price is a factor), all that comes up is the latest models, and they're mostly 4K.

I really wanted a Vizio, but they're not sold in the UK and I'm not prepared to go down the grey market route.

Is there any especially good screens I should go for instead ?

Is there any reason why you don't want a monitor?

    Hello

I found that sitting in front of a TV is not as good as a monitor, as TV are normally watched from several feet away and monitor much closer.

Tried that back when LCDs were still new on a 32 inch TV. Not good at all. BUT if you have the cash i would go for OLED.

if you are going to use a TV go for one of the new 4K screens a lot better for picture and screen lag.

Re: Anyone using a TV as a monitor have recommendation ?

Well, you get a bigger screen, but not any more dots, and you generally end up paying more-per-dot (and the number of dots is a reasonable measure of how much information you can get information into your brain I think).

Things to watch out for with TVs are:

    • Lower refresh rates at max resolution
    • Colour compression at max resolution (sometimes caused by HDCP chips I believe)
    • Not being able to turn off some picture processing features on some models
    • High latency ("lag").

You may find that with some models you just can't get good enough performance for what you want to do - so from that point of view it's risky.

If you're thinking "come on - how much can there really be to it?" you might want to read a guide like this for setting up one particular set of 4k TV models as a monitor - Google for "2015 Samsung 4k TV as a Monitor Set Up Guide" (with the double quotes at either end)...
