Dell S2716DG and U2717D side by side - visually compatible ?

I'm swapping out some monitors on a dual head setup.

I have an annoying requirement in the modern day monitors, I need

a.) mini-display port / display port / hdmi connectivity for one monitor
b.) the best possible response time on the other

I have found the Dell U2717D is actually pretty much what I want, and looks great value and offers really thin boarding which is great for dual head, BUT the S2716DG appears to be the "gaming" version of the same monitor. So in an ideal world I'd have just bought 2 x U2717D they are reasonable price, or 2 x S2716DG and have the slightly higher performance on both monitors, however the S2716DG does not have the inputs I require, but I only require those inputs on one monitor, so I'm thinking if the two monitors are visually the same (same bezzels sizes etc) and would look identical next to each other, I could get 1 x S2716DG and 1 x U2717D and use them next to each other, however if they don't look the same and create an "odd" visual experience then the technical details behind them get lost.

it seems impossible to visually compare these anywhere, so I'm curious to if anyone has compared them or has the ability to visually compare them ?
    It is Inevitable.....

It looks like they are not the same at all, except for the size.

I do not have the right to post links but if you go on www pcgarage ro and search for DELL Gaming S2716DG and DELL U2717D you can see photos for yourself.

heck no. you're mixing high-end IPS and basic TN screen tech. The IPS (U series) is far superior in terms of viewing angle, colour depth, etc etc. You will see the difference, and it will drive you mad. Believe me, I used to run IPS and TN side-by-side. the TN might be better for gaming depending on the respective refresh rates, but that is about all TN screens have going for them IMO, and a number of IPS screens are quite competent as gaming screens too.

interesting, but given the lack of premier panel guarantee with the S series, how is it for dead pixels? I'd be worried about them downgrading the quality and using this for the rejects from the U2415

in any case the one the OP is talking about is definitely TN. It is pitched as a gaming monitor with GSync, so is probably not a bad monitor, but it will look noticeably different to the U series in terms of colour reproduction.

I haven't looked closely (it was bought as a gift) but nothing obvious at a quick look - I was pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price I paid.

Have you thought about an HDMI to display port converter (or whichever conversion combination you require)?
