Has anyone here tried Windows Mixed Reality headsets?

I notice the Acer one is £280 atm. After trying my Rift my dad was considering getting an HMD, and that price is pretty good. The inside-out tracking that doesn't require the sensor cameras the Rift uses sounds much easier to set up too.

But I wouldn't want to recommend it if they are cheap because they are unusable

Not me. Apart from anything else, requires W10 (*) which makes it a non-starter for me.

(*) Actually requires W10 Fall Creator's update, or later, but any W10 rules it out for me.

From your history of 3D hardware I can't imagine you are bothered though

My dad has Windows 10, though he would probably need to just buy a new PC to get something VR capable in which case it would come with Windows 10. He's fine with that.

I'm not at all bothered about 3D TV but if I could find a VR system that :-

    a) Was supported by titles I was interested in, and (critically)
    b) Didn't rapidly give me a headache,

.... then I'd be interested. It would no doubt necessitate a PC upgrade too, but the only reason I haven't done that already is nothing I currently use it for needs it.

But, anything requiring Win10 turns it into a nob-starter for me.

To be clear, for gaming, I'd like a VR system .... if I can find one that doesn't make me ill. I just don't know if it is possible, or ever will be.

I first tried Portal when drunk with a headset - does that count?? It was a mixed reality for me. Or was that the room spinning? I couldn't tell.

    Gets coat\.
