Monitor update - good colour, freesync, 24/1080p or 27/1440p exist yet?
Still working away on my ancient but calibrated Dell 23" IPS, but keep wondering if monitors have developed enough for an upgrade yet.
I do photo editing so colour accuracy is the #1 criteria - doesn't need to be adobeRGB but sRGB should be 100% and as accurate as possible out of the box.
But then I also game, so am looking for >70hz freesync compatible.
And then I also watch movies, so would like nice contrast.
Size/res wise, I was going for 27"/1440p as a sweet spot, but the increasing price of GPUs may make me stick to 24"/1080p.
I know OLED should solve all of the above.. but it doesn't appear to be happening yet. Are there any IPS/VAs that should be on my watchlist?

For a gaming monitor this is best deal I've seen for budget build:
https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/elec...ource=webgains
also available at debenhams if you're worried about returns.
As I understand it it's the same panel as this, so check the colour accuracy here:

27" 1440p is the sweet spot I feel. This also comes with an IPS panel, 144hz refresh, freesync (2?), 350 nits brightness, and HDR apparently, although I'd be inclined to just disable that.
Vega 56 is good price at the moment (around £235) and would give you a ~ 50% uplift in performance over your 1060.

You could also look at the old Dell ultrasharp U2713HM, which I just sold, it's 7 years old, but a great monitor for photo editing. Can be picked up second hand for around £125 - 150

Yes, I've had the U271x monitors for work for the last few years, fabulous for that side of things, but not the gaming.
Thanks for the video - the colour inaccuracy out of the box is a bit concerning. I could calibrate but application support for icc profiles is a bit hit and miss sometimes - at the moment my adjustment is pretty minor so it doesn't matter too much, but as the adjustment gets larger non-supporting apps look worse.

It's just an extreme budget option, incredible specs for £180.
Check out some reviews on Hardware Unboxed, and also they have a "best monitors" section on their website (TechSpot). They're a fantastic resource.

I too am interested in this subject. If you followed my other thread, I bought a 40" 4K screen for work, but it's no good for gaming. I've got a 23" IPS panel that I overclock to 72Hz which is acceptable, but it doesn't support a VESA mount so I have a strange clamp around it which makes it difficult to swing in.
So what I'm after, doesn't seem to be too outlandish: A 75Hz IPS panel (8-bit minimum 100% sRGB) with good colour reproduction, 1080x1920 22.5"-24" in size and a VESA mount (I'm amazed at how many monitors don't have 4 screw holes on the back) - and I guess freesync. I feel 23" is maximum for 1080 really. My 24" 1200 monitors at work are pixelated enough. And small is good for shooters as otherwise you're searching around the screen.
But frak me, I can't find anything that hits the mark. Acer Nitro VG0 looked good, but the reviews are terrible.

Have you got the electriq version? I looking at it and the specs would be ideal for me but I have some concerns about the osd options compared to the pixio version that all the reviews show.

Don't know if the LG 27GL850 has appeared on your radar yet, but it looks like it fits most of your criteria (which also happen to be my criteria).
There's a comprehensive review at https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_27gl850.htm - and while it doesn't have the contrast ratio of VA screens, it looks very strong in all other areas.
The main problem is its scarcity, which will hopefully be remedied in the near future.

That's certainly added to the radar.. ideally I'd like a lower height stand but let's see if any other designs appear (or even this one!)
