Is it only me, or would others on the site like to see monitors with aspect ratios more in line with 4:3 or 3:2?
I would love to have a 5120 * 3840 resolution 36" monitor. Lots more lines for the spreadsheets and to read webpages.

I agree there is a lack of work based resolutions, I loathe 16:9 ratios when working but what can you do.
16:10 is a good aspect ratio for work related stuff, but I've not seen it beyond 1600p and they seem to have dropped 1600p lately back in favour of 1200p, probably cost v demand.
3840x2400 seems to only exist in industrial solutions at the moment as far as I'm aware.
I also like working with 5:4 but don't think I've seen anything beyond 1280 x 1024
I enjoy 1440p for gaming and home stuff.
I was similar, but now I bought a 1440p 27" monitor (compared with my old 22" 1080p monitor) and it's much better, feels like you have a lot more space to work in (about 40% more lines at the bottom, to be precise).
I too enjoy 16:10, finding 16:9 just too "wrong" vertically.
16:9 is "popular" because it allows panel makers to serve 2 markets, TVs and TVs pretending to be monitors.
I think that really is the problem now. 16:9 is in so much demand for TVs global, that if a panel manufacturer decided to make a special run of 16:10 panels for computer monitors, the price would be significantly more, and the majority of aficionados would moan about the price being too high and then not buy them.
Personally, having the top of widescreen at eye-level, the bottom could easily be 2-3" lower and fit comfortably - and give more room for reading. I'd gladly buy 2560*1920 or similar, but I really doubt it will ever happen.
If anything media has driven the ratio that we see today. I wouldn't see them catering for the workspace any time soon. Personally I miss 4:3 or 5:4 but only because I build arcade machines and want to keep to the older retro format.
Yeah, I had a similar problem. I have a 1440p 27" monitor now and it feels like I have so much more space than my previous 1080p 22" monitor. 40% more lines at the bottom of the screen really helps.
