    New Monitor

So, given new GPU's are on the horizon, I'll be picking up a replacement for my trusty Dell P2311H..

I don't want anything that is bigger physically, and I'm happy (I guess) with 1920x1080, however, I'm thinking the replacement will be higher refresh..

I want something with USB on it, more than 1 type of input would be nice as I currently have HDMI/DVI and VGA..

Speakers, not overly bothered with as when I game I use my headset, but for Youtube and random surfing, speakers could work...

So, what do you guys recommend, anyone gone from 1080 to something higher and love it?

    Budget?

    I'm personally a big fan of 27" 1440p
They don't use up much more desk space than 24", and you can run them with 1:1 pixel scaling so you actually get to use the extra pixels, which is dead handy for work.

    Re: New Monitor

Don’t want to spend over £200 unless something really jumps out at me, but given how long I’ve had this monitor it’s not like I’m not going to get my money’s worth out of it.

I only sit about 1.5ft from my screen which is why I didn’t want to go too big...

    Re: New Monitor

I'm also currently using a U2311H at a similar distance and I am considering a 27" 1440p which I'm used to from work - yes, you move your head a little bit more at the extremes but pixel density is similar so it feels fine. BUT it seems like you'd have to double your budget to get a 27" of comparable quality to the U2311H with higher refresh.

Back to 24", finding something with USB pass through is tricky though. Buy a USB hub? If that's OK, something like https://www.ebuyer.com/982218-msi-op...9s6-3ba41t-006 or https://www.ebuyer.com/959604-viewso...monitor-xg2405 might be the sort of thing you're looking for.

    Re: New Monitor

Yeah the hubs not really a deal breaker, I do actually have a usb3 hub on my desk for drives etc so not a huge issue..

Might have to have a rethink on the budget a smidge..

    Re: New Monitor

What is your budget going to be? There are so many monitors out there that unless you have a limitless budget you will probably need to make compromises on features.

Think about what you are going to be doing as well. 1440p at 27" is really nice. The extra windows real estate is really nice, but for me, what swung it was the extra UI space in the main game I play (EVE Online). Consider an ultrawide monitor as well. I think the next monitor I buy will be one.

I like to keep an eye on hotukdeals as sometimes you can find real bang for your buck there. If you are stuck at 23/24" then I wouldn't personally go over 1080p

The AOC 24G2U/BK seems to offer what you're looking for and has good reviews.

Ebuyer have a few options, I take it IPS is better than TN when it comes to panel types...

Better colours and viewing angles, but usually slower so not as good for action games. The fast gaming panels tend to be TN still.

IPS panels seem to get better response & less smeary all the time, and TN colours don't suck like they used to. I don't think it is the critical choice it used to be.

Freesync seems to be on any decent monitor these days as well, which helps.

I’m guessing anything new is going to be better than the one I have now, simply because it’s old.

From a quick look at your current monitor specs, it looks fairly decent.

If you are into twitch games, then a high refresh rate Freesync panel will be really nice. My wife plays strategy games, so frankly her 144Hz panel is probably wasted and a slower IPS one would be better for her.

    Edit: Half finished post

She probably wouldn't notice any difference between her 144Hz panel and your 75Hz one. It is all about usage.

I think the speed difference between IPS panels and TN panels is a lot closer than it used to be. I remember gaming on IPS panels just 10 years ago and seeing a very visible ghosting which made some games close to unplayable. In real world use now, I haven't come across any panels that are that bad. I have actually looked at IPS panels and been unable to see ghosting that other people have seen so a certain amount of this is going to be subjective.

I'm kind of the same, some people seem to get quite intense over backlight bleed and I just don't notice it. Perhaps I've been lucky with my panels.

I just got a new IPS panel which my daughter is using whilst her Samsung quantum dot display goes in for repair. I've always had a soft spot for Iiyama, but this is lovely: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-i...i-dvi-speakers
That's probably not a recommendation for the OP as it is a 75Hz panel, but just a comment that a modern IPS panel doesn't have to be a smeary mess.

Her usual monitor is a: http://overclockers.co.uk/Samsung-C2...MO-238-SA.html
which might be of interest to the OP. It was a 144Hz VA panel as she mainly does digital art on it so needs good colours, but occasionally games. It lacks speakers and USB though.

    Re: New Monitor

That Samsung does look nice, guessing the model doesn’t come in the box (jokes anyone) but it has made me realise I need to look at the base footprint due to my desk size..
Back in the UK shortly so will check when I get home...

As for the speakers and hub thing, I’m going to drop that from the requirements list as they’re not really important given the other kit I have..
