    Red face 1440p Recommendations

    Hi all,

I am planning a new build in the next couple months( if stocks let me ) and have noted down triple 1440p 27'' monitors. I do like the desktop space I will get from having 3. Have also looked at 49'' monitors but I do work from home using a Surface Pro and not sure if it will work on a 49'' ultrawide hence the decision on 3x 1440.
I will also be gaming playing some racing sims also so triples do come to mind when playing racing games plus other games.

    I have looked at:
    Gigabyte 27" M27Q
    LG 27GL850-B
    Asus TUF GAMING VG27AQ

All of which seem quite good on paper.

    Any other to look into?

    Thanks!

have you had a look at reviews on https://www.rtings.com/monitor ? They weigh up all the pros and cons of each.

    Re: 1440p Recommendations

You should reconsider the 49", my work laptop is a few years old XPS 13 and that runs the resolution without a problem, albeit at 30hz because of a pretty cheap USB-C (not thunderbolt) dock. From what I've seen about the Surface it should support the resolution at 60hz (though you might need a registry/driver workaround to enable the option), even without thunderbolt.

For my own productivity and gaming, I moved up from dual 25" 1440p Dells to a Samsung C49RG90. I found that I was using one of the Dells as a "main" screen and pretty much ignoring the other, but with the Samsung I can sit centre and make much better use of the screen estate. Gaming at 100/120hz is lovely as well and you don't HAVE to use the 32:9 aspect ratio if you don't mind black bars either side. FPS and Racing sims are very immersive without any borders.

Good luck on the build, stock is starting to pick up if you are going Ryzen/3070

    Re: 1440p Recommendations

FWIW, I have the last one in your list (Asus TUF VG27AQ) and am pretty pleased with it. The HDR looks decent in videos, although I've yet to play a game where HDR looks right. But I think that's more down to it not being implemented properly in games yet.

The only thing I'd say is you obviously pay a premium for G-sync. I haven't checked prices but would imagine the other two are better value as they are FreeSync.

A friend of mine recently bought this MSI monitor with essentially same specs as the Asus, except it's FreeSync. I forget what it cost him, but I know it was a fair bit less than my Asus.

Think I'm going to regret buying a samsung G5? It seems to have as much backlight bleed as my current msi monitor, I'm also not sure how much of an upgrade the g7 really is?

    Re: 1440p Recommendations

Am looking to replace a very old 1080p Samsung monitor, Still not sure what to upgrade to. But thanks for advice on using https://www.rtings.com/monitor, very useful and will use this to help me decide on what to buy. I a Samsung LC27HG70QQUXEN, but the picture quality just doesn't seem right to me.

The Dell S2721DGF seems to get thrown around frequently as being a really great 27" 1440p IPS panel.
You haven't mentioned whether frame rate was a deciding factor, however the three examples you listed are all 144Hz+.
The Dell I mentioned is 165Hz with FreeSync also.

They occasionally pop up on sale prices at around the £330-£350 mark.

I have one and I wouldn't call it really great in general. It's a good monitor, but there is very bad IPS glow and blacks are not very dark at all, meaning contrast is very low. Coming from a 'slow' IPS display before, I was disappointed. If you're after a gaming monitor that is good for brighter games/photo work then it's excellent.

It's pixel response time is excellent though, as is colour reproduction, and 165Hz. It's a great monitor, but no HDR.

That was my experience too, I actually returned the first one because I thought surely I just got unlucky with the IPS glow. 2nd was just as bad :/. I think I'm just gonna go for a smaller 1080p 144hz monitor now.

All those models you list are solid choices...I think it'll come down to personal preference really but I personally think the Asus TUF GAMING VG27AQ is the ideal choice!
