    28" 4k Monitor Recommendations

I have been working at home for a good while now in the living room and have been set up at my main rig which has a 5+ year old 27" 4k TN panel monitor.

Situation at home has changed and I need to start working in a different room and want to take the monitor with me so looking for something to replace it on my main rig.

    Looking for:

    - Preferably 28 inch (might be OK with 32 if needed)
    - 4k res
    - greater than 60Hz refresh and some VRR tech
    - IPS panel
    - HDR not too important, don't count HDR400 or edge lit HDR600 as HDR anyway and can use the OLED TV if I really want the eye candy

    Budget around £500.

Don't mind spending a bit more if needed to get something truly great as i tend to not change monitors that often.

    Many thanks

The Aorus M28U is probably your best bet, although it's hard to find in stock at the moment.

    Review here:

It's also a bit above your budget at £659.99 but that's about the entry point for 4k > 60Hz monitors...

    Re: 28" 4k Monitor Recommendations

I did see that one and watched a couple of reviews last night and it looked like currys of all places had stock for delivery, just couldnt bring myself to part with the money.

I might have to drop the > 60Hz requirement.

I know 4k monitors were only just becoming a thing when i bought my last one but i dont think it cost me that much.

Edit: OK so after checking it came out in 2014 and cost around £500, huh

    Re: 28" 4k Monitor Recommendations

Prices on high refresh rate 4K monitors are really high, but that's because they're pretty much at the pinnacle of gaming monitor technology. The other thing to consider is that true HDR isn't really a thing for such monitors yet, aside from the insanely expensive Asus PG27UQ at about £2,189.00. LG are supposed to be releasing a 42" 120Hz OLED TV this year which could be an option, but other technologies like mini LED and new variations of OLED are in the works. The other thing to consider is that you need a GPU that is powerful enough to run games at around 144 fps, which can be asking a lot, depending on the games you play (although DLSS etc can certainly help with that).

    Re: 28" 4k Monitor Recommendations

Gigabyte M28U from what I've read is the current one to beat. There are a couple of others that trade blows with it, but overall the M28U is the best package.

M28U hits the top spot, skip to 19 min 48 sec for comments on the M28U

    Re: 28" 4k Monitor Recommendations

I dont mind not being able to hit the top end of the refresh range at the moment. I can't really say up till the last 12 months or so when i got a 3080 that i was really able to hit 40k 60 fps a lot of the time but had the monitor for many years so if it has VRR for now for the 60-80 fps in games but i expect in 5 years time i would be able to hit the top end with hardware that is available then.

I might have to go for the M28U then, at least i can get a few % off if i get some egift cards to pay for it and 1% TCP.

Definitely try to get the M28U, it's one of the best ones available. I'm not sure if you're aware but the HDMI 2.1 port is only capable of 24gbps and does not support the full bandwidth.

    Re: 28" 4k Monitor Recommendations

But this is a non-issue at the resolution, framerate and colour depth it's targetting, as it would never need more than that.

hmm OCUK have 10+ B Grade Gigabyte M32U's basically at the same price as the M28 which is tempting would want to know why they are B grade first though, have asked the question but will probably be ignored.

My bad I should have looked more into the colour depth.
