if you know where to look games can be had for as little as £20 or less
if you know where to look games can be had for as little as £20 or less
^^Not the latest ones though.
true, but CoD3 can be had for £25, GoW for just over £30, Viva Pinata £25 etc, and just because games are the latest releases doesnt mean cheaper older games are any worse
GEORGETUK JUST BUY ONE ALREADY!!!!
QFT.
You say that you can pick up 360 games for cheaper than normal, but the same can be said for PC games. You can pick up games very cheap on eBay, or even in the more expensive shops like high street Game stores.
Yeah you can get some 360 games for less than £20, but not that many, if theres a new game thats coming out you want, unless you're willing to wait a few months for the price to drop, you will very rarely find it for less than £40.
I don't see where everyone gets the idea that if you want to game on a PC you MUST upgrade to the latest and greatest tech every 6 months.
My first PC that was up with the times (around P2 era) lasted for a very long time before games wouldn't work on them, although that was a different era, where we didn't have graphics cards being released every 5 minutes. Even so, my current PC, which I bought about a year ago now, while quite expensive at the time, it was hardly bleeding edge, yes it had some top end tech, but it wasn't the flagship models apart from my GFX card. It cost me about £1200, while expensive if it was just designed for gaming in mind, it's a PC and it's far more useful than a 360, especially for me as I do some CAD and complex mathematics on there. I have put a few upgrades on there, but they had nothing to do with gaming, I added a few extra hard drives and a second monitor, but that was a personal choice, and didn't effect my gaming performance at all.
Apart from that, in respect to it's gaming performance, it's not been upgraded in over a year, but it still runs almost every game on max settings. With only a few like Medieval II not being able to play with huge unit sizes as theres far too much on the screen when on max settings.
Even so, if there was a game I couldn't play on max, I could easily drop a few settings down a notch, and still have a fantastic looking game. In fact, the only reason I can think of to upgrade my gaming hardware in the next 6 months is to DX10 when I feel it's worth it.
In the year I've had this PC, if every game I bought for it were on the 360, it probably would've cost me a fair chunk more than it did if they were all 360 games, even if I could get them for cheaper than £40.
Many people here are also saying grab a 360 and a nice HDTV and you'll be set. To get the most out of your 360 you really do need a HDTV, and even to play some games (Dead Rising for instance) it's almost required, since the text can be very hard to read. But think about it, an HDTV is very expensive, even for quite a small one, so there goes your savings for buying a 360. Clever people will just hook it up to a spare monitor though to save money though
Although I really like my 360, it could never replace a PC in terms of both gaming, and things like media functionality, etc. Theres also the point that most games are a lot easier to control with a keyboard and mouse, and even if a game is easier with a pad, there is something called a USB port where you can plug one in 360s can't use keyboard and mice in games, well they can, it's just developers never think to enable it. I heard theres a new smartjoy frag coming out soon for the 360 though.
But all it comes down to is personal choice, do you like sitting down on the sofa, by yourself or with friends, or do you like a completely different experience that you get with the PC. I personally like both, sometimes I want to play LEGO Star Wars and PGR3 with my mates, sometimes I like a good bit of online BF2142 with masses of players, or enjoy a good RPG by myself.
You can't ever replace a PC with a 360, even if you're just considering gaming, but the same is true the other way round, but only just.
PC > 360
/wanders off until something so earthshatteringly life changing (IL-2 /LIneage2) arrives for 360.
Which it wont.
However.....troulbe and grief..... 360 outperforms PC by about 1 trillion to one.

/cough latest versions of IL-2 are a few weeks old, will not run on PC's properly from even 4 years ago. Need good horse power, good graphics, and lots of ram.
/re-connects his "agrees with everything Hex says" PCB and continues like normal

Me, I like both And dont anyone get upset about the nerd/geek/gamer comments as we are all nerds/geeks of some sort otherwise we wouldnt all be discussing this, or posting here. I'm a proud and loud nerd (not a geek......A NERD As all of you should be
