    STALKER multiplayer beta- discuss!

NDA has lifted so we can talk about our impressions of the multiplayer.

Personally, I think the presentation and UI is poor. It feels so old. Some sites have been comparing the graphics to Crysis which I think is a joke.

Have to admit though, the first half hour of playing I just thought the game was poor, especially when there are many other similar games that do a better job, but then I did spend 4 hours playing it last night and started to really enjoy it.

Although it's an arcade style shooter, running out in the open isn't a good idea. It seems to be more about camping in a set position and waiting for people to come past.

    PROS: Weapon buying and upgrading
Trainyard map is a great design - loads of places to hide behind, sniper positions.
I like the weather and the visual impact of when a breeze passes through the trainyard.

CONS: Awful sound. Guns sound like pea-shooters and re-loading sounds don't seem to be in-synch
Not so easy to differentiate between your own team and the other team.

Factory map is annoying because of spawn camping. I couldn't even move for 15 mins because the opposition are just sitting round the base. I hear they might be adding invincibility for a short amount of time after spawning.

Animations - Jerky and flickering when you die.

    Nothing really new.

Not sure at this point whether I'd buy it. I'd like to see more maps first.

Chat is , and . It's quite pretty if you crank everything in the options manually, but it still runs to slow for it to be an option for most.

It' not groundbreaking, but it;s a lot of fun.

Not really. Team deathmatch, deathmatch and capture the artifact and bring it back to your base.

The beta only opened yesterday so it's a bit too early to say if it's good or bad, I'm pretty undecided. It all feels quite old, but the more I play it the more I like it.

We'll have a first impressions article once we've played it a bit longer.

Not working for me, doesn't like my nVidia drivers

Dissappointed with the game modes in MP, I expected it to be more like the single player but with 16 players or something instead of yet again bog standard deathmatch and CTF. What I'm interested in the most is the SP, looks really awesome, shame they didn't include a SP demo in the beta.

It feels like an old classic already. Not sure if that's good or bad yet. The more i play the more ingenious the map design seems too.

I got my beta invite yesterday and on installing and trying it for the first time, I was greeted by a grey screen and a nice sky :/

Seems you can't play it with Nvidia forced AA and AF. But after removing those I was into the game and running around.

First impressions were that it looked nice, but cranking the antialiasing up in the game to max and everything else to max didn't make it look anti aliased that much to me. Although it did look nice and ran fine.

Then after playing it for a few games I really got into it. Its a bit like TFC with some COD and MOHAA weapons in it. The layout for the console is a bit oldfashioned but it works. Im pretty sure the console layout will got well when you are playing single player in the future.

Will I play it again tonight when I get in from work... Definately.

    Fun

The map design of Railroad is brilliant. I love my Rainbow 6 maps, but this one is really growing on me.

Thirded. Also, I must be fumble-fingered or something, but the "buy" interface feels clunky as hell.

Remember it is only a beta. you wont have full functionality online now. they *may* have a sort of multiplayer co-op type thing in the full version. Would be nice.

The multiplayer isn;y too bad. Sound's aren't bad either, I don't have a clue what you mean by pea-shooter? just because they are aren't all "BOOM BOOM" in the hollywood bass style.
I have to say my comptuer is no where near good enough to play it and my one problem is I get a little motion sick with the head bobbing and lag (my end)
