I just started playing Mario tennis and Goldeneye again after digging my N64 out from under my bed and yes I would agree the older games are pretty challenging to me right now. I can't believe that there was a time that I was any good at these games. What also astonishing is how crapy they look when at the time I remember being blown away by them graphically, particularly goldeneye & mario 64

Same with worms, anyone remember how the wind affected the weapons so much in 2D but in the later 3D versions you could predict better where it's going (or maybe its cos I played with it a lot...)
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

I remember thinking 'how can you possibly improve graphics like this' whilst drooling over Stunt Race FX on the SNES. Just for a laugh, I dug out my SNES and plugged it into my 42"HD telly. Oh how I laughed

pfft you just have to remember the classic strategy - in CnC Red Alert thats build lots and lots of Mammoth and large Tanks, surround your base with telsa coils and barbed wire, then send your 100 tanks to destroy the enemy base Job Done.

I would actually go as far as to say that most of those older games are easier - for me. I spend far too many hours on various CnC games..and I find the simpler, (and more fun ) older ones easier..

Worms reached it's peak with world party, 3d never did the game any favours because rather than trying to create a new 3d game with the basic worms concept they just made the exact same game but worse, with 3d thrown in for no reason.

Older games were more simplistically challenging, but there are still plenty of challengin games today. Stick Civ4 on Prince or higher and tell me thats not taxing, or howabout X3?

People have become bored of games testing reflexes and reactions against a computer because guess what, a computer will always be faster unless it's holding back. If thats the kind of challenge you are still after then online multiplayer is the place. But then you have the issue of how many times you want to be the victim of a CS headshot by someone who plays the game all day long and all you want to do is drop in for an hours fun.

for some reason the best way to get throug the bosses seemed to be:

1 - win the first round
2 - let yourself get spanked in the second round
    3 - win the third.

second round if you won the first always seemed way harder, but went easier in the third depending how you performed in the second

I got Sonic 1 on the Wii VC the other day and experienced the exact same thing... I remember as a kid being able to fly through the levels knowing exactly when to jump, spin etc. etc., now it goes too bloody fast for me And this is on the PAL version which is apparently 17.5% slower than the "true" NTSC version
