    EA Link

What the gris is this crap?

I was lazy and couldnt be bothered to save a few quid, so decided to get BF2142 over EA Link after C&C3 installed it, rather than going to Tesco over the road.

After the generally poor download speeds, BF2142 finished downloading, it kept disconnecting but I just shrugged it off and thought it was a temporary issue.

Now, at the end of the installation progress (it seems to launch it in the background and you get a little progress bar in EA Link) just disconnects due to a "temporary problem" or something similar, every single time, without fail.

Anyone experience similar issues? I want my money back

I dont mind it, like you I couldnt be arsed to leave the house to buy the game so brought it via EA Link. One problem I did have was once I had first installed BF2142 EA did stop working but a download and install of the EA software (dont need to un-install the current one) solved that.

Its not a bad problem, download speeds were great for me, doesn't use much system resources and I was surprised that its discreet, being EA i was expecting ADS EVERYWHERE!

I love steam, always have. It had its problems but it was a refreshing step forwards for digital distribution. I hate CDs/DVDs and having to go and buy them or wait for ages for delivery.

Heh maybe, but also it gives me the option to buy a new game when bored and play it v. soon after

Plus disc's are just plain annoying, if it wasnt for patches and online play i would no-cd everything I own but as the only games I play at the moment are either Steam Based, BF2124 (through EA Link) or dont require a CD (MMO's) I'm sorted

I also like steam, very good system.

One gripe I have with EA Link is it refuses to acknowledge the fact I have BF2142 registered to my account, so whenever BF2142 says "oo there's a new patch, got get it on EA link" I respond "I would if it ****ing appeared on there" and then spend a few hours till I finally find a site + download it with a crappy speed.

The real question is, What's right with steam?

With the introduction of the ads, its abysmal, lag on server respawn and they have messed up the size of the scoreboard (oh no capitalism doesn't play any part in this) not to mention their ridiculous "no more 1.6 updates" but wait, they keep updating it.

Someone remind me why you have to have a front end to go through before you can run a game?
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lots of things, theres more to steam than precious 1.6

You're lucky Valve have supported it this long.

    Steam works ok now.

When I first bought half life 2 I couldn't play it because steam would use 100% of my CPU and so was unable to connect. Some guys came up for a temporary fix - when it opened, but before it connected, ctrl-alt-delete and change the cpu priority to the lowest.

Left it about 6 months, reinstalled it on my new PC and didn't have any issues.
