my xbox 360 has gone wrong with 3 months left on the shop warranty they said they would exchange it for a new one but i would only have 3 months of warranty on the new one surely i should get another 12 months with the new one please help

What the shops said is right.
When you get a replacement item to replace something thats broken the warranty is carried on, not reset to start again.

Yup, well within rights I'm afraid. Pretty fair and reasonable if they're giving you a new one. Technically it could be repaired.
Grab the new one (with the 3 mths warrenty) offered, before they change their minds and opt for a repair (or, worse, a refurb) instead.
update changed my xbox 360 today was really happy got it home hooked it up perfect went to go online update needed ok so i updated it after update red light flashing on console broke already only 30 mins old

Check both the console AND the power brick are well ventilated before you take it back again. People usually bury the power brick behind their TV in a mass of wires, remember that they've both got to be kept cool.
