I've finally had a chance to play with my HD DVD drive (Bargain) anyway - anyone know how to get it working under Vista for playback?

Think Vista has drivwers built in, you just need a "player" that does HD. Quiet a bit of info

As Flibb said Vista has the drivers built in, you just need to hook up the drive to a USB port and Vista will detect the drive. Playing a HD-DVD is a really pain in the ass if you dont have the right setup.
Ive just upgraded my ATI X800XT to a Nvidia 7900GS as I couldnt get any video playback from PowerDVD 7.3 (the main software solution for HD-DVD) which I put down to the graphics card not being HDCP, although AnyDVD HD is supposed to remove this factor I was still unable to get playback.
What you really want is a capable graphics card with HDCP and HDCP capable display, though im not sure whether the display is a strict requirement. After installing the new card I can now play HD-DVD straight from the Xbox360 drive with no problems in terms of being able to display video and output audio, now the problem lies with the software. The widescreen bars which are encoded onto the video are much brighter than the bars surrounding the whole video which is very annoying but im hoping their is a quick fix solution.
Give us an idea of your system and setup and I may be able to help you out, though im a n00b to the HD-DVD playback so my knowledge isnt that great yet.
I have a 3007FPW-HC Monitor and an 8800GTX It should be fine when it plays
I tried PowerDVD 7 - but this apparently doesn't work and I need the Ultra version

if possible would? you mind postings screen shots
I put it down to powerdvd and there crap software. Ever since ive used powerdvd its always riddled with bugs and loves to crash.
Hope they get there act together and sort out the software as its the only real software available at the moment for HD-DVD playback.
I've got personal experience of this. My laptop has Vista Home Premium and you simply plug in the drive and go. It connects to the internet to get one part of the driver and it's done.
As others have said, you then need a new version of something like PowerDVD that supports HD-DVD.
Yeah I have the version of PowerDVD Ultra now![]()
I'm using mine on my laptop atm. Much quieter than using the 360.
