    Exclamation Arma

Anyone elase buy ARMA: Armed assault?

I've ben waiting to get this game ages, and what a dissapointment!!!

Clunky, buggy, aged looking, buggy, laggy... totally unfinished really.

And it got loads of great reviews...?

Is it just me not being a 'realism freak'? As I think I just wasted £30!!

    dissapoinyed!

As a veteran of Operation Flashpoint who is quite into 'realism' games, I too (and many on Arma's forums) feel let down, many of the missions were completely broken and it was impossible to complete them, there is so many things wrong with the game, and when we got it in the UK it was already on patch 1.4 (it was released in Germany 6 months ago).

I want to like it, but until (if) they fix the bugs, it's going to stay in it's box and off my hard drive...

I agree Arma in it's current state is a bit of a letdown. But if it's going to be anything like OFP with regards to support and modding then it will grow into the best combat simulator we've ever seen.

If you really want to get a great Arma experience, play it in co-op mode with a bunch of people in an organised match with Teamspeak on. I've been playing it a lot recently like that and you really can look past all the bugs and the shoddy performance when you're in the middle of an op with a good bunch of lads who are communicating well and acting as a unit.

at the moment the patch 1.5 is almost 500mb which i feel is outrageous for a full release game i believe they are goin to continue to support the game, but how big will the patch end up 1gig??
Some of bugs seem really serious e.g crappy gfx, crappy sound (crappy sound fx has been addressed by a third party mod)but looks like it needs a serious overhaul

You're spot on. I have total faith that the game will be awesome. Remember OFP was crap at the start too and it has lastet six years!

It is the same engine, just with loads of stuff on top, makes it a bit of a resource hog tbh. Although it might be outside their scope, for Game2 (the official sequel, this is supposed to be 1.5 between OFP and Game2), they should look at building a better engine from the ground up.

Operation flashpoint wasn't perfect to start, but it was *playable*. I mean, at the moment, Arma is so laughably bad... there's a mission, second or third one I think, and they just give an ordinary soldier a LAW launcher, some C4, and your diary says lets go blow up some tanks. So that's all you do. Completely plotless. There's also a lot of spelling mistakes... and that's not even getting onto the things that are properly wrong with the game.

To be at 1.5 and still not have any form of 'polish' is embarrasing in this day and age, and although it's a bit dramatic, it would make me seriously consider whether buying other games from Bohemia was worth it.

I'm hoping your right about the updates and mods making it better in the future, as it is now the single player is unplayable imo! Is it me or does the aiming on the sniper rifle not work?

I had a slightly better experiance on the net, but ppl will tend to go solo, as in most FPS online, and do their own thing instead of working as a realistic team, why isn't their a straight forward battle between red and blue? I find it very difficult to id friend from foe, as everyone is all over the place. As you say, finding a group of serious ppl to play with might be the best option, but that still leaves the clunky, and difficult interface...

Think I'll stick with CoD 2 untill the inevitable 1.6 update!

Believe me, as soon as the advanced editing kit is released this sim will explode with quality addons and total conversions. Theres a good chance if you fire Arma up in 6 months time and you will be blown away, just look at OFP as an example, and arma has the same editing suite and community/developer support as OFP. You'll hardly recognise the game in a year.

What sort of range are you sniping at? I dont use the Snipers much but I think the scopes are zero'd for distance so if you're trying to hit a target that is quite close you have to aim lower. If your target is like 500m away you can pretty much aim level and hit him rather then aiming high like you would with a less powerful weapon.

It'll probably toil. ArmA needs a lot of horsepower.

As someone has already said, if you join a clan this game becomes wonderful. Teamwork, tactics and a whole lot of fun, playing co-ops and pvp.
