Re: ZX Spectrum - Your memories

Played a bit of Speccy this weekend on the emulator.

    Highlights include :

    Bruce Lee
    Robocop
    X - Out
    Flying Shark
    Outrun
    Rastan

To name but a few. Flying Shark and also X - Out are much better on the 64 have to admit. Bruce Lee is about the same on both formats just different graphics.

Need to find a better Speccy emulator though as the one I have currently knock my desktop back to 256 colours!

Spin is one of the best free ones people seem to use , lot of them listed here...

    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html

Perhaps as I 'grew up with it' but Flying Shark on the Speccy i really enjoyed. Always felt it was better than 1942. Been playing Ikari Warriors a lot to try and get the top score on myspeccy.com . Also Cobra, a great game of a dire film !

Yep they always seemed a good bunch. I went to Crash towers once when i was a young kid to play in a Speccy competition !

Radio 1 just had a news item about the retro show over the weekend, plus a page on the main BBC website....

Hope even more people come next year to it

Re: ZX Spectrum - Your memories

    http://www.rzxarchive.co.uk/h.php

You can download an 'rzx' file of Head over Heels which is basically a recording of someone completing the game. Works with most Speccy emulators, you can fast forward the action but its quite fun at times seeing how someone completes a game.

Not saying watch every second of it but i often like forwarding to the end to see how they did it or the end sequence.

Some emulators you can then 'pause' the replay and take over the game yourself.

Re: ZX Spectrum - Your memories

Really liked the Ultimate games, often never stood a chance of completing them (Knight Lore) but just finding new screens was fun back then ! Seems crazy now.

Always found Lunar Jetman way too difficult ! Jet Pac was cool, heard the X-Box remake is also very good.

Just a shame no one has ever seen 'Mire Mare' - the famous game for the Speccy which never surfaced.

I've been trying for months and months to complete Jetpac Original ported onto XBLA, but it's so damn difficult. Great game though. When are they gonna turn all these speccy games into titles on PSN and XBLA?

Re: ZX Spectrum - Your memories

PM me with your MSN addy David and I will add you somepoint today.

Found out why Spin isn't using my games at least. It doesn't support the filetype that the games are. They were done with ZX32 emulator and it has its own filetypes!

Re: ZX Spectrum - Your memories

I had (think they're still in the attic) a 48k ZX Speccy and a ZX-81.

Favourite games were (Stallone) Cobra, 1942, Ghosts 'n' goblins, Bubble bobble, Dizzy in Kwik Snax, Atic Atac.

How annoying was it when loading a game from cassette only to find you needed to adjust the volume on the tape deck to get it to load properly.

Re: ZX Spectrum - Your memories

Cobra was an excellent game, been playing it tons over on http://www.myspeccy.com/

(Site where you play online Speccy games and it keeps the scores on a leaderboard). Great game considering how bad the film was !

Always found Ghosts n Goblins very difficult but was a great conversion

Jet Set Willy, Sabre Wulf, Attic Attac and Hyper Sports. I managed to destroy a Kempston joystick doing the weightlifting event in Hyper Sports, those were the days
